I'm trying to make a foaming bath soak without any coconut derived products due to allergies. However, I am finding it hard to find any foaming agents that are coconut free. Does anyone have a suggestion of what I can do to achieve the foaming effect without slsa (cocnut derived) and other products like it?

A former member, Todd Ziegler, used a product that was fairly equivalent in use to cocamidopropyl betaine, but it was made from babassu instead of coconut. I believe it was called babassumidopropyl betaine, but I can't recall for sure. He also said it was difficult to source.

There are two more that might work, Foaming Oat and its sister product made using apple amino acids. I don't know what else is in them.

For that matter, make a liquid soap from olive oil.

The only synthetic detergent I can think of that might work is sodium c14-16 olefin sulfonate. Not to say there aren't others, just that's the only one I'm familiar with.

C14-16 is based on palmitic (C16) and myristic (C14) fatty acids. Detergents made from coconut oil fatty acids will be based on lauric acid (C12) with some myristic acid.

Why does Humblebee & Me say it's derived from coconut?

I stand corrected. I didn't research it in depth, so I should never have posted.

But as far as it not being offered to DIY-ers, I purchased generic C14-C16 detergent some years ago from Save On Citric, which was bought out by Wholesale Supplies Plus.

You can get sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate (AOS 90) version here: https://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/products/bioterge-as-90-surfactant.aspx

And Sodium C-14 C-16 Alpha Olefin Sulfonate (AOS 40) version here: https://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/products/sodium-aos-40-liquid-surfactant.aspx

I meant, non-coconut based.
