coconut allergy...ideas?

I have a coconut and nut allergy (this is why I just started making soap). I really want to make a salt soap but I don't want to use coconut. Any suggestions?
I have been using a soap calculator and just making my own recipes subbing Palm kernel flakes instead.

I made this they other day could I get some feedback? It was an attempt at a shampoo bar- my scalp feels a bit dry, but my hair felt good.

Increase your superfat to 7 or 8. A little extra moisutre will help counter the dryness.

If you just made it a few days ago it will be a bit harsh -aka drying - because it's not been cured yet.
Most soaps are sooo much better (including HP) after a full 4-6 week cure. And they will also last longer as well.

You could up your superfat as melstan suggested, but that won't work near as well as a full cure will.

On the coconut replacement, babassu has similar properties to coconut oil.

On your shampoo bar, maybe reduce or eliminate the PKO.

I haven't seen that thread, but quite honestly I would not use a shampoo bar that didn't have any cleansing oils in it.
Shampoo bars gum up my hair bad enough and I would want at least something to combat that.

I am kind of like you, the shampoo bar that works best for me actually has 25% coconut oil. It is probably too drying for most people, but then again, that's the beauty of making your own soap/shampoo bars - you get to tweak the formula! :wink:

I'm not sure how the cleansing values are calculated for the different oils, but what I've concluded is a cleaning score of zero basically means the soap doesn't have any lauric or myristic oils (coconut, babassu, palm kernel, etc.) in it. Soaps with a low or zero cleaning score do clean, just not as aggressively as a soap with a lauric-myristic base. But, hey, as always, YMMV. --DeeAnna

yes, I understand that, but without the cleansing oils, I would need a vinegar rinse every single time that I shampooed my hair. I would just rather not do that, so when I do use shampoo bars (which is rare) I use a formulation, with both coconut and pko.
