I have to admit I'm having a blast trying different things since I began just several weeks ago. So far, I haven't had any truly "bad" experience with the first few batches I've made. I really, really appreciate all the feedback, advice and help you all have offered up and, I have to admit, the one thing that made the most sense is experimenting with smaller batches!

My first posting and question in this forum was about fragrance and that's where I find myself again.

I wanted to try a clove-scented soap and I read all about clove oil being sensitizing and how it accelerates trace but I was really unprepared for how much it DID speed things up. I barely go the batch into the mold, but I did make it. I used 7 grams of clove oil in a 725 gram batch of soap. It barely had any scent at all. I'd almost say none. I also added about two teaspoons of finely powdered cloves. That powder, aside from giving the soap an interesting appearance, didn't do much for scent, color or anything else.

I'm wondering if there is a better fragrance to use other than the clove essential oil.

Any other thoughts on clove would be appreciated, although I think I'm not really motivated to use it any further unless I can find a safe fragrance to use.

Up to this point, I've used peppermint oil, star of anise and bergamot very successfully.

Thanks in advance for any feedback you can offer.

It’s very difficult to get a lot of EOs to stick in CP. you may want to find a clove FO but the usage rate may still be very low. You’d be better off to do a blend of top, middle and deep notes. I don’t use much in the way of EO these days. I did start with them but wasn’t happy and one I started selling customers wanted dupe scent of thing they were familiar with. plus EOs fro me were not cost effective fro many of them.
