My hemp oil mixed with orange EO developed a cloud in it after about a month. Shaking won’t desolve it. What happened and why?

Didn’t try heating it.

Stuck a swab in it. It kinda stuck to itself. I think it is a contaminent. I must've got some water in it.

Can someone explain why an oil blend would become contaminated in a short time? I reused a washed plastic container previously used for willow bark extract...a natural preservative. I believe the container was dry before refilling with oil. My oils are fresh and fridged until use. When I apply the oil, I cover the opening with my clean finger and tip it on to my finger.

Hemp oil has a short shelf life - that's why it needs refrigerating. And being that cold can lead to cloudiness. I wouldn't assume it's contaminated. Try warming it - and use it up! For what purpose did you buy it?

My cold hemp oil never got cloudy and oils that do cloud when cold, don't make a solid mass. Either the bottle you used wasn't sterile or your finger wasn't. Water isn't the only thing that can contaminate oil, either way it needs to be tossed out if its growing a mass of bacteria.

A good option for the future is to use a sterilized glass bottle and eyedropper so noting touches the oil.

It's hemp with orange EO, not just hemp oil. I still think it's worth a try to see if the cloudiness is something that is congealing with cool temps, but it is entirely possible that it's something microbial. If so, I'd expect the cloud to be near the bottom where there might be some water and settled contaminants or maybe the sides of the container where oxygen is more available. The OP doesn't say where the cloud was/is located in the container and hasn't responded whether the cloud goes away by slightly warmer temps. Dunno.

I used it as a facial moisterizer cuz my darn Olivem moisterizer failed.

It was a congealed substance in the oil which was fresh but not in the fridge for a cpl weeks. I live in SoCal. It hasnt gotten below 60 here so I dont think temp caused it. Which is y I did not try warming it.

I threw it out after testing consistency of the substance which appeared to be a contaminate. It was disgusting. It looked like the oil had an infection in the middle of it. When I fished some out with a swab there was a tiny black dot too. Not sure if it prev on the swab tho.

A few degrees difference in temp is all that's needed to cloud a fat if temperature is the reason for clouding. So it doesn't matter if you're in SoCal or Iowa -- cooling from 65 to 60 could cause this kind of clouding. Just sayin'.

But it sounds like it was contamination, so my point is moot for this case.
