Have you ever tried one of these recipes for chocolate cake in a mug? I have fixed them occasionally, But at over 700 calories, I have to be pretty desperate for chocolate to see it as worth it! After lunch today I felt the need for chocolate and went to the pantry to find that hubby had left the chocolate pretzel box -but there was nothing in it! I texted him asking for chocolate and never heard back. So I had a thought. You can replace the oil in recipes with applesauce sometimes, why not give it a try!?? It turned out much "fudgier" than usual, but that is fine with me. I like it even better! Plus the trade off saved about 350 calories. That is still a hefty amount for a snack, but is only half the amount of original recipe.

Oh, and since I was not using the oil, I sprayed the mug with vegetable spray, and mixed it in a bowl before pouring it into the mug. Not sure that was necessary, but its what I did.

My favorite: Take a box of cake mix, any flavor and a box of angel food cake mix. Mix together dry until well blended keep in a sealed container. Blend together 1/3 of a cup mix with 3 tblsp water in a cup, microwave for 1 min to 1 min 10 sec depending upon microwave power. Instant low fat cake. This works so much better than the flour, egg, etc mix.... Makes a lot of cakes in a cup too!

OMG. I have a horrible cold, my nose is all stopped up, and I can't smell or taste anything ... and this still sounds sooooo yummy. Thanks for sharing!

Liz, my recipe is almost exactly the same as sweethavenarts' except for the baking soda, which I think I will try adding next time. And of course this time I exchanged the oil for applesauce. Oh, and mine says 2 T of egg, not the whole thing. That gives my spoiled puppies a treat, too!

Interesting that the applesauce made it fudgier, using applesauce instead of oil in cookies makes it cake-ier!
