Does castor oil have a sediment that settles on the bottom? Or if I am seeing something like this, should I toss it? I got this jug of castor oil a few months ago - is that as long as it lasts?

Hmmm... the sediment sounds suspicious to me. Does it also have an 'off' smell?

The castor I buy fom the healthfood store in 2 lb. bottles is always a clear, light golden color and has never had sediment in it. It also lasts a long time. From all I've read, castor is slow to go rancid and typically lasts from between one to two years.

Does your jug say how the castor was extracted?

It doesn't have an off smell to it. I talked to the company I purchased the oil from - the lot date was May 08, about a week before it was delivered to me. So doesn't appear that it's outdated. I was told it was sediment and that it won't harm the soap.
