Is there a recommended % for Castor Oil? I'm going to add some in my next batch.

Is there like a 'Do not exceed any more than _%' chart for oils? Or is this just a personal thing?

Thanks once again xo

How much to use depends a lot on preference, and also on the formula itself. In one of my formulas I use it at 8%, in another formula I use it at 10%, in another formula I use it at 23%, and in yet another formula I use it at 20% (I sure have a lot of different formulas, don't I! And those are just my formulas with castor. I have still other formulas that contain no castor at all).

In my formulas where the castor % is really high, it is balanced out with a very high amount of tallow and high-stearic butters. If I were to add that much to one of my 'softer' formulas it would probably make my bars very sticky and that much softer.

My notes say to use up to 10% - great added to soap with wonderful long lasting lather. good for dry and ageing skin. If use more than 10% soap may have a greasy feel.

I use 5% in my recipes.
