I'm anxious to try to make as castile while I wait for some other ingredients to arrive for my GM soaps. I'm nervous for a 100% OO castile. I was thinking of a 80% OO, 10% CO, and 10% blended canola (canola and soybean blend). What about a 60/30/10 or 60/20/20? 70/20/10? I was thinking of the canola to cut the costs of the CO and OO. Will it mess up the soap to add the canola, or should I just go for the 100% OO? Other websites are not very helpful with their castile instructions. I know you guys are better :)

Castile Soap

I used 100% OO and it worked great for me, it just took longer to trace and the soap takes longer to harden. Hope you enjoy making it, I did! Good Luck!

I made a 100% OO castile a few weeks ago. No problem, and using a stick blender it didn't even take that long to trace. I used a 2:1 water to lye ratio. Soapcalc's default is water at 38% of oils, and 2:1 is less than that (I think it might be 33% of oils, but I've never done the math). Using less water will help it to trace faster. The only "problem" with making 90% or 100% OO soaps is that you need to let them cure for a LONG time (3 or 4 months at least, I'm told), or the lather tends to be slimy. I don't plan on trying mine out until at least August.
