I'm starting to make soap :D I am very new...just started like this month :D
I bought 10 soaps (a dollar each) from this lady that wanted to get rid of her Goat milk soaps asap...my soaps are not ready of course so I bought them...

She said she only used water, lye, and goats milk....is it possible to make soaps with just these ingredients? Don't you need fats/oils? :?:

ok so that means she needs to use more things to make these....because I keep asking her and she doesn't want to answer....all she says milk, water, and lye...she doesn't even tell me if they are mp or cp :(
now I'm upset...

if you dont want to use them, then dont! just count yourself lucky that you didnt pay full price for them.

chances are good that she didnt use anything toxic to make them, and that they were possibly just the last bars she had left of a certain scent (or unscented).

but i do think that that is a horrible thing to do- sell someone soap and not disclose a full ingredient list.

I would never use anything on my baby if I did not know what it was or who it came from.

yea, I'd not use on myself - let alone my baby.
why won't she tell you?
a - she doesn't know (and got them off someone else)
b - she has something to hide
c - she thinks you are trying to steal her recipe

so 2/3 chances that you don't want them touching your child.

I wouldn't use them either. You can tell someone which oils are used without giving away your recipe.

1 dollar a bar is really cheep. ( here in germany it costs more than that to make). Where did you buy the soap? Do you know her? Have you bought soap from her before? Do the bars look ok?

Kinda makes me think there is something not quite right here...

In addition, if she sells 'goats milk soap' she is required by law in the US to list all ingredients. If she just sells soap, she can get away with not listing any ingredients.

Goat Soap Ingredients

I don't know about the laws in America, but to sell soap, the maker is obligated to list the ingredients from largest to smallest. Not the quantity, just the ingredients. If you are unsure of the product, you don't have to use it, but I wouldn't think there would toxins in it.

In the US you are not required to list ingredients on soap, tho if you list some you must list all and follow the cosmetic rules.

I agree with Mackie - if you are unsure of the product then don't use it.

I don't know about anybody else, but I want people to know EXACTLY what is in my soaps.

Almost sounds like an MP goat's milk and she doesn't really know how soap is made. What does it smell like? I think MP goat's milk unscented smells sort of plastic-y. JMHO. Seems like that could be sold for a dollar a bar and still make a small profit.
