Made some soap that I just cannot tolerate the combination of FO's that were used. Q-tip sample smelled good but finished product does not. If I rebatch, will rescenting it work? Soap if fine; just stinks!

Is it just too strong?
I made a batch of stinky soap once because the FO was much stronger than most. It also accelerated and the soap was very ugly.

I shredded it into a new batch of unscented uncolored soap and it came out great.

It's not that the scent is really strong; it's just that I find it very unpleasant. I've used the base recipe for the soap before and I know it is going to be a very nice soap once it has cured, it's just I don't think I can get used to the scent. Never had to deal with botched soap because of a stinky FO so not quite sure what to do with it. Don't even want to grind it for laundry soap because I don't want my clothes to smell of that scent. Ugh!

I used 1/3 each of Neroli EO, Sandalwood FO and Wise Men FO. (The Wise Men FO came from WSP and it's the one that is the problem)

Didn't like it in the bottle but thought I could blend it with something that could mellow it out. Saturated q-tips with the above scents & put in a little baggie for a few days. It really smelled quite nice in the baggie after 3 days so I soaped with it. It's been 2 wks since I made the soap and I'm not liking the scent at all. Lesson learned.....if you don't like it in the bottle, you probably won't like it in soap. Thinking of cutting it up in chunks and incorporating it into a new batch. Not sure what scent to use for the new batch that could override the Wise Men scent.

Hmm - Not familiar with Wise Men... Wish I could help. Hopefully soemone else has a suggestion. Have you contaced WSP for suggestions?

All in all - I just received a big order from them and I find that PEAK (but they have FO's) and Save on Scents (Not as many pure 1 scent EO's to choose from) are nicer.

Good luck - I hate batches I'm unhappy with!

The only thing I could suggest would be to rebatch and mix it with some unscented soap. Then you could add more of the other two scents to even it out a bit.

HTH :)

Can you box it up and hide it away somewhere for a very long time?

Last year I mixed some e.o.s and I tell you it was an awful stench. I was so disappointed but since the goal of that particular batch was to have a long cure (made 9 months before Christmas in an attempt to have the mildest possible dry skin formula as gifts) I left it. It became simply amazing. It is my DH's favourite, and I am sorry I didn't make more. It only got better at about 6 months, then continued to improve. I only have one bar left and am dreading its disappearance :D
'spose I could make more

That's a great idea! My spare bedroom is full of soap  so I won't even miss the stinky batch. It is actually in week 4 of "the cure" and I just sniffed it last night and thought it didn't smell quite so bad so rather than rebatch or turn it into laundry detg I will box it up and put it away. Thanks for the suggestion djk17!
