I have camel hump fat, and I would like to make soap from it, but I did not find it in the soap calculators
Is there a way to calculate the amount of sodium hydroxide it takes to saponify?
You're right, I couldn't find any information about it .It is like tallow or lard fat, which is commonly used in soap making.I also asked there and did not find an answer!I've never even seen anyone talk about that before. Or seen it. I'm not even sure what to say. That's a thing? The only time I've ever seen a camel is at a fair. You know the traveling ones with rides and stuff. Maybe try asking a company you buy the sodium hydroxide from?
That is so never a question I've even considered.
Thank you for alerting me, I assumed you would not find a topic to talk about, but I didDid you try searching the forum? I feel like this was discussed once upon a time.
Thank youI found this article that describes the fatty acid profile and SAP value of camel hump fat:
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0308814613001544
I just read this link, but it only lists the SAP value for using KOH, not NaOH. I do like that there is info on it's fatty acid profile, though. Very interesting.I found this article that describes the fatty acid profile and SAP value of camel hump fat:

Because I did not come across any topics covering it, .. .
This thread says to use carrot seed oil in the soap calculator.

Yeah, that was the best I could doI just read this link, but it only lists the SAP value for using KOH, not NaOH. I do like that there is info on its fatty acid profile, though. Very interesting.
For future reference the NaOH SAP (multiplier) can be calculated from KOH SAP (multiplier) and vice versa.I just read this link, but it only lists the SAP value for using KOH, not NaOH. I do like that there is info on it's fatty acid profile, though. Very interesting.
I had no idea! Thank you!For future reference the NaOH SAP (multiplier) can be calculated from KOH SAP (multiplier) and vice versa.

Please share your experienceAwhile back @Black soap n candle lady asked if I had tried soaping with camel fat, but I had never seen it available. I did a search and, wouldnāt you know, Amazon has it available as hump fat. Now I will have to create yet another unusual soap. The rabbit hole keeps calling!!!
