Okay I’m at a serious loss here, no matter what I do and what temp I use to melt my base, it develops a film and turns out rubbery EVERY time. I’ve done 30 second bursts in the microwave, 30 second bursts on half power, a double boiler, a double boiler on the lowest heat setting, I’ve reduced my additives to practically nothing, and no matter what, by the time it’s able to fully melt, there’s a film on top and the end product is just way too firm and rubbery. What on earth is the problem, and how do I fix it??

I’ve tried two different base types and brands, one was Craft and Nature natural goats milk base, the other was Skin Said Yes shea butter base. All I’ve added is tallow (started with 1 tbsp/lb and now went down to 1 tsp/lb), and also 1tsp/lb white sugar for lather. I tried melting 2 lbs at first and am now only doing a single lb.
