Does anyone use a regular bundt cake mold or do you have to find a silicone mold? I'd love to make one, but all I have is one of those regular metal ones so I'm thinking I'll have a tough time getting the soap out of the mold, even if I line or oil it up. Thoughts?

I imagine it would stick although maybe if you oiled it and then put it in the freezer to unmold it might work? If it were me I'd try for a silicone pan. But what a neat idea, you could make soap look like cake slices!

I don't. But I have decided to for my daughter's next birthday party. I plan on buying a silicone cake mold, because they are so very easy.

But if you are in love with the design of your mold, perhaps you could look for a silicone spray (I'd use a food grade one, like this: http://www.amazon.com/PRAGOTRADE-Food-G ... B000T3L1GU) and perhaps also try freezing it if it doesn't slip out.

I don't know how it would come out of the mold, but there is also the question of what the bunt pan is made of. Don't want to use aluminum.

Soap cakes are fun!

I've used a Wilton silicone bundt mold and the soap came out very easily. No need to prepare it at all. :)

I've used a silicone and even though it looked fantastic, it really is the most awkward piece of soap to use! Don't think I will ever make another one.

I just found the small silicone bunt cake molds at Fred's. They make about a 8 oz. cake of soap. The molds go for a dollar.

I want to know how much a full size bunt cake pan holds when it comes to soap "batter". I usually make 3 lb. batches of soap....do you think it would be enough to fill the cake mold? Hmmm....

I added shreds to mine and believe it was 4 pounds of oils with a smidge leftover.

Thanks jude! I guess I would need to resize my batches a tad to fit! Thanks for the info!

Very true and something I didn't think of! Guess I'll be looking around at the stores to find a silicone one.

I agree and thought what I could do to avoid this big chunk of soap is to cut thinner slices....trial and error I guess...

I used a silicone cake pan, which I put into a nine inch springform pan for stability. I used my 55 ounce (oils only) batch, and it was perfect. I did my cakes cphp.

As far as the awkward slices go: Yes, they are! I cut my cakes into 16 wedges, and then it is easier if the wedges are sliced horizontally into about 3 slices. IMO, it works better than the thin slices all vertically. I haven't given one away yet sliced like that. (I have just done the vertical cuts) I am considering doing it sliced partially through on the horizontal cut.

Another idea is what my husband calls a "low profile" cake. I use my same pan, which holds 2000 gr recipe, but put a 1000 gr recipe in it. Still pretty but makes a slice that ends up being easier to hold.
