Could I possibly make something acceptable for myself with some of the following that I have on hand:

Palm Oil
Lard
Olive Oil
Peanut Oil
Almond Oil
Canola Oil
New Crisco

Just read Irish Lass's recommendations but I can't find tallow in my neck of the woods. (Don't ask me to make it from scraps from the butcher!)

There are lots of threads about shaving soap in the forum if you do a search.

General guidelines - high on stearic and rincoleic (at least 20 in soapcalc, or more if you can). Use clay for slip. Some folks add glycerin at trace. Keep cleansing numbers low and creamy lather high.

I don't soap with animal fats so I've been trying to come up with a formula that doesn't use tallow. Lots of shea and cocoa butter, in my case. Given what you have to work with, I'd see what you can do with lard and the new crisco which contains palm. You really need castor, though.

Judy,
Thanks for the reply and guidelines.
I happen to be off to the pharmacy this morning so I'll see if they have any Castor Oil.
Cheers!
