I had an experience last night that made me snap because it wasn't the first time that it happens and last night I just lost it. Perhaps one of you have had a similar experience....how did you handle it?

I went to a McDonalds drive through last night cause I wanted a salad. Well, I ordered my salad (with RANCH dressing) and a couple of other things for my boys at home. I paid and went to the next window. The young girl attending the window gave me a bag with my salad in it and nothing else. I told her that my order was NOT complete, there was stuff missing. She asked me for a receipt which I did not have. She told me it was in the bag so I gave the bag back to her so she could find it. She stomped back (never apologized for her mistake), put the remainder of my order in the bag and gave it back to me. I KNEW from past experience that I should check everything so I did. Of course she didn't give me RANCH dressing like I had asked, so I told her to give me the Ranch and she huffed as she walked off. So, now she's already pissing me off because HER errors are causing me to hold up the accumulating line behind me. But you know what, I'm not leaving until I get what I paid for.

So she gives me my ranch dressing and while I turned to put the dressing in the bag a colleague of hers asked her what the hold up was. She replied in Spanish "Estoy ayudando a esta vieja" (I'm helping this old lady). I SNAPPED. Apparently the little bi*** doesn't know that I am fluent in Spanish. How dare she insult me like that? I did nothing wrong! I turned around and told her in Spanish "Don't talk about me that way, I'm not old" and I said it with venom on my tongue and in my eyes. She immdiately turned her back on me and wouldn't face me. Her colleague was facing me and apologized profusely. I then told her colleague that this young girl needs to work on her people skills and I stormed off.

Have any of you ever caught someone talking about you in a derogitory way right in front of you? If so, how did you react?

Gotta love those drive through experiences. You can't ever go back now, she may ****y-trap your food.

I would call the daytime manager and report her. They tend to be lax when the big bosses aren't there.

Can't say I've ever experienced what you went thru but I usually come up with a good comeback about an hour later. :)

Tabitha - funny....geez, you don't suppose she'd do something like that do ya? Personally, I don't think she'll last that long.

I was thinking of going in and talking to her manager but then I didn't want to be mean and make her lose her job. I figure she'll do that to herself and then maybe learn a lesson in how to work in customer service.

Sibi, you're beautiful and definitely not OLD

Ahhh, the good old days!!

Chrissy,

In this case I WAS right. She totally screwed up my order and never did the words "I'm sorry" escape her lips. But you're right, whatever happened to the good ole days......sigh........

Deb,

Thanks for the compliment. I don't think I look too old (although my body often reminds me just how old I am :( ) but as for beautiful - not anymore - I would instead say I'm not too hard on the eyes :)

I'll give you a buzz about tomorrow!

Kitn,

I am a firm believer in "what goes around - come around" or "you get what you give". She'll get hers somehow...... I would hope that someone in customer service would treat her rudely, the way she treated me. She might learn her lesson then!

Were you in front of me in line??? I was at McDonalds yesterday too and MAN, did they take forever getting the person's order right...!

Hehe Kristin! But seriously, if you were in South Riding, nope - not me, but if you were in my neck of the woods - then it's a strong possibility that the person holding up the line was me :?

Sibi- I just read of your experience and just wanted to say, 'Wow, what rudeness of that girl!', and 'Wow, what a quick-witted and well deserved comeback!' :)

I just love it when the tables are turned on so rude of a blatant injustice, especially when its immediate and right on the spot. It so often happens that I don't think of a good comeback until 20 minutes or so after the fact.

The fact that you know how to speak Spanish fluently and were able to understand what she said and make an immediate reply to her insult in her own language....well......it was a thing of simple beauty that doesn't often happen in this world.

Ahhh, the good old days!!

It seems to be getting rarer and rarer these days, but you can find pockets of it here and there. The MacDonalds by us has always seemed to carry a rude factor so we just don't go there, but I've never, ever had bad service at In & Out Burger.... and our local Burger King, Taco Bell, and Chick Filet have very pleasant workers, too. Maybe they spend some extra time and money on training their workers on customer service skills.

P.S.: We find the burgers at In & Out and Burger King are far superior to MacDonald's anyway.

IrishLass :)

Irishlass,

I would normally have just been pissed and rode off...... I'm just like the rest of you ... I can never think of a comeback line until it's too late. But that day it was like someone else temporarily invaded my body and spoke for me because the words just flew off my tongue without me even really thinking about it...it's hard to explain. But I was very glad I finally spoke up!

One should never make assumptions about the language that a person does or does not speak. I could very easily speak Chinese (if for example I grew up in China) but not look it right?

I've found that all of the workers at Chick Filet are very friendly and never rude. Maybe they should train the McDonalds workers!

Sibi, don't ya know an incident like that means FREE FOOD!!!!!

oh my goodness, me and my daughter are the queens of "keep a confrontation going till we get FREE FOOD"

Call the manager

Customer service in this country sucks. I don't know when it started going down hill, but honestly, finding good service these days is like finding a needle in a haystack. When someone just does a normal "nice" thing it seems like "above and beyond." I can't believe she talked in Spanish thinking you didn't know it! Boy, I bet she was surprised!!

I had a really bad incident a few weeks ago. I stopped at this gas station that I always stop at on my way to one of my facilities. I paid at the pump for my gas (company credit card), then went in to buy other items with cash (pretzels and soda - my favorite travel food)... anyway, when I get to the check out. The lady said, "Did you have gas?" I said, "Yes, but I paid for it at the pump." Then she rudely said, "No you didn't." I said, 'Yes, I did, I paid with my credit card." And then she said, very sarcastically, "NO, you DIDN'T."

With this, I said, "YES...I DID. And I have a receipt in the car if you need it." Then she said, "Well, which car ARE you?" And I ponted to my car. She said, "Oh, I thought you were in the other car."

So I stood there with my blood boiling (I'm also getting very tired of just taking bad behavior from people who are waiting on me.)... so I thought about it for a minute, and I said, "You, know, that was really rude the way you handled that." She looked at me and raised her eyebrows and said, "What?" I repeated, "That was really quite rude telling me I hand't paid for the gas and arguing with me about it."

And then she said -- I still can't believe this -- she said, "Well, I thought YOU made a mistake.

I couldn't believe this lady, and I said, "Nope, I'm not the one who made a mistake, and since you haven't apologized YET for YOUR mistake, I'm going to tell you that even though this gas station is very convenient for me, there are about twenty other gas stations on my way to where I am going that would like my business, so guess what... I won't be back."

There was a line behind me by now, and she just kind of looked at me, and her face got red, and her hands started shaking and then there was dead silence. I snatched up my receipt and purchases, and I haven't been back. I can't tell you how MAD I was. It was so infuriating. There are about a half dozen ways she could have handled that... but instead she couldn't even accept that she had made a mistake and a bit of humbleness would have gone a long way, even if she couldn't find her way to an apology.

This kind of stuff just drives me crazy!!!! I am telling you, we are getting to be such a rude and lazy country. It is really very sad.

Customer service in this country sucks.

I don't necessarily agree with that. Granted, the McDonalds girl referring to Sibi as old was uncalled for.

I find I get great customer service at most places, I smile, I'm friendly and I try never to be rude myself. I can only imagine that having that for most of the people working in a service industry having a constant stream of people needing/wanting something from them would try the patience of a Saint, especially if the customers themselves were rude, short or generally unpleasant.

99% of the time my positive attitude is reflected back at me.
