When I do a soap test batch I like using a freezer paper lined Velveta box. It is just the right size for a small batch and I can slice this small loaf into guest size bars.

The only fault I find with these sturdy little box molds is the bowing out in the middle. I like my loaf to be straight and even.

I would like to know what other soap makers do to prevent bowing of their molds. I know silicon molds have the same tendency.

I have tried reinforcing the sides with duct tape. And after pouring the batter I wrapped masking tape around the middle to try to keep the middle from bowing - no luck with either attempts.

My first choice would be fitting it exactly into another sturdy corrugated box - or making a frame for it out of sturdy material.

Otherwise I would place the Velveeta box inside a larger box with one short long side supported in a corner. Then use anything you can find to support the other edge.

put some books on each side. i did it before with a silicone mold that has no outside box. it helped. you can also taped a thicker carton/cardboard on the sides for better construction.
