I was inspired by some "forbidden" black rice I found in the grain bins at my local Whole Paycheck this week. I know I'm not the first person to make black rice soap, but I couldn't find any recipes for it. So we'll see how it goes.
My idea is to soak the black rice, to leach the color into the water I will use for lye. Check. I let rice soak for 2 hrs and water came out a dark, dark purple. Then I ran the rice-water through a Brita filter to remove any starchy floaters.
Right now I'm going to freeze and dry the rice so I can grind it into a fine powder for an exfoliant. Hopefully it gets dry enough to grind, but if not I'll just use ground black poppy or black oxide and colloidal oatmeal.
Then I've got a plan for a recipe with shea and rice bran oil. Double rice!
I'll let you know how it goes. I'm hoping for a nice black color like this:
