Benzyl alcohol

Can anyone tell me what Benzyl alcohol is used for please?
I bought a 250ml bottle as part of my soap supplies order believing it might come in handy for preserving lotions. I don't really have a clue what to use it for though......possibly a daft idea to buy it but maybe not.
Can it be used in the same way rubbing alcohol is used to stop ash forming on cp soap?

Does anyone know what ratio it should be used to, as a preservative for rose water?

You mean rose water that you make yourself, from rose petals?

The floral waters I've purchased don't contain any preservative.

Yes, home made from rosa rugosa petals I had stored in the freezer. It's in the fridge at the minute but I want to preserve it as I'm not going to use it all at once.
