I read quite a while ago on another forum, someone was saying you can't sell soaps made with alcohol without a special license or something.

I was looking through past Featured Sellers on Etsy and came upon this one:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/thebeersoapcompany

and that's what made me think of this.
Are they legal to sell? (well they must be, obviously) but do you need anything special to sell them?

I think you boil all the alcohol out of them anyway but I'm just curious if anyone had heard anything like this before.

I can't see why selling beer soap would be an issue. First of all, in order to properly soap it, you have to make sure the alcohol is boiled off and there is no carbonation and finally, who would eat or drink beer soap? Some things just don't need regulation. Wait long enough, though, and the U.S. government will require a liquor license in order to distribute this type of soap!

Any alcohol that is left is so small, and if you consider what a small amount of beer is in each bar - I have a hard time believing that the ATF would worry about this - especially when you think about the ramifications of EATING soap - I'm not even sure drunk college students would be that desperate.

At the very least they would sure blow some bubbles. I sell alot of beer soaps and have not considered that an issue as I do make an effort to remove the alcohol. It is something I thought would never make for a nice bar of soap. To drying I would guess.

well, that's exactly what I read.. It was a few months ago, I was searching for people using crayons to color soap, and came upon this forum or something. The specific story was that someone had been at an event, and another vendor made wine soap, and they were fined because they could not sell it with a liquor license.

aha.. I even found the original story, here it is.
(it's about halfway down the page, it's by someone named Kanita)

I don't know if the story is true obviously, I was just curious!
