Hi,
I just made my very first bath bombs today and I went back a couple of hours later to find they had 'risen'. The molds had come apart about a half inch and the bomb was oozing out of the mold. Any idea what I may have done wrong? I used this recipe:
1 c baking soda
1/2 c citric acid
1/2 c corn starch
1/3 c epsom salts
2 1/2 tbs oil
3/4 tbs water
1/4 tsp borax
I measured the dry ingredients then the wet into a separate container and shook them up. Then add the wet to the dry and pack the recipe into the molds. I did use some witch hazel to calm the fizzing when adding the wet to dry.

I had that happen to me once and I figured it was because my mixture was too wet.
Since then I stick to which hazel, add no water, keep my mixture just barely moist and press it real hard to keep its shape. Had no problem since :)

Hi, I used the exact recipe Sat....except that I did not use any witch hazel. mine dried well, until the second day when the humidity sky rocketed, then mine started to soften (and could have started reacting to the water in the air).

I suspect too much water got into your batch...either a simple miss measure, too much witch hazel, maybe your fragrance has extra water in it? or too humid in your area?

The results are a good solid basic bath bomb...try it again!

Thank you for the replies.

I will try it again on Friday and watch my water and witch hazel. Usually humidity doesn't come into play where I live, but I will watch that too. Thanks for you input!

I never make bath bombs if the humidity is over 65%.

lol, how are we in the UK going to make Bath Bombs :D

Actually, I have given up on them. I may introduce "Bath Sherbert"

sure enough this morning everything was fine... I go and check and my bombs are starting to get sticky/fluffy on the outside.. I check and the humidity is at 66% (with all windows/doors open downstairs). I'm closing all the windows and turning on the ac! Hopefully that will help!

Humidity is a huge issue for me. I try to stay below 50% humidity and lower is better.

Another factor, to me, is your epsom salts. I used to use those and had endless 'warting' issues. Since I deleted them, my bombs are smooth and hard.

Might try cutting back on that a tad.
