Hi All! I’m planning to make avocado and aloe soap. My first question is, do you prefer avocado juice, or gel – and why :) I’ve done some research and I’ve learned that juice is for internal use, and gel is for external use, like skin products. So what do you think?
Second, do you know the way, that avocado soap stays green, and not discolor for brownish color? What is the trick?
Also I was thinking about citrus, bergamot and rosemary blend, may you have any tips on the proportions?
I will appreciate any help and advice :)

Did you mean aloe juice or gel? I have used aloe juice to replace all the water in my recipe and it worked really well. I think prepared gels have some additives maybe? But fresh aloe would be great if you have it.

Of course I mean ALOE not avocado juice or gel! Thanks :) I thought so too, I just have found aloe juice 99% and the rest is some citric acid- I think it may be ok. Unfortunately I don't have the aloe plant at home :( so in they case what do I do, just take some juice and the rest of liquid value I replace with avocado pure- is that right? Can I go little over liquid value with avocado pure? I rather to make sure that lye will get dissolved properly in aloe juice, so I would use more than a half of liquid amount, but at the same time add some fair amount of the avocado ;)

I have not used avocado puree but have done similarly with coconut milk and pumpkin. Used enough coconut milk to dissolve lye (don't recall exact solution, but less than a 50% lye solution) and made up the rest of my water amount with pumpkin. Worked fine that way.

If you are not using fresh aloe I would first puree the avocado with a little lemon juice, fruit fresh (citric acid), to see how much you have, deduct it from your liquid and make your lye solution with the aloe. You will retain a better color if you mix in your avocado puree at light trace and added in some lemon juice. I usually add in some sage powder or spirulina to retain a nice green. Lemongrass and Lime make a great avocado soap, even a touch of tea tree added, or lemongrass and cederwood. Avocado soap is so creamy and nice. I usually make mine with avocado oil and puree with fresh aloe

Osso, Carolyn, thank you! Lemon grass and lime – sounds very good I must purchase the Aloe juice and EO’s, can’t wait to try it!!!

Carolyn, did you ever tried to add avocado to your oils before lye? I wonder if that makes a significant difference.

A! I gel all my soap, I know that will give me slightly different color, but will it be still green? I imagine that gelled avocado will go dark.

I add the avocado to the oils before the lye and add a smidge of green oxide.

Thank you all for tips!
Ok, so i already created my recipe for avocado, had changed the aloe Vera juice for cucumber water, but i wonder if i need to decrease the SF because of fats in avocado? Now I‘m on 8%.

I read a (much) older post the other day when I was making my own avocado soap. The OP reduced her SF to 3% when adding avocado so the lather wasn't reduced.

I tried it but no word yet on whether it worked as they are still curing. I'll post an update.

I also added my avocado puree to my oils and and as you predicted it turned a medium tan.

I saw that thread too - that’s why I have asked, to hear some more opinions :) But I will not go to low on SF. For start I’ll try 5% and 1\2 avocado per 2 lb. What do you think about it?

So it looks like lemon juice is needed! Than it has a chance to stay green! I hope! Did you gel?

I overcooked that thing so badly. If that had been a nice steak, I would have been imprisoned for life for what I did to it.

Oh no! But did you manage to save it or totally ruined and it can only be rebach? I’m so sorry to hear that! It was CP right?

I thought I would try CPOP for the 1st time. It kind of inflated like a souflee, but also collapsed like a souflee in the end. It passes the zap test though, and I wasn't making any swirls, so it's fine for me and DH. And it smells great-cedarwood and sage EOs, yum.

It will darken the batter to a tan to brown if you add in the avocado to the oils first. I stir in my lye well, but not to trace and add in the avocado. It can still turn slightly but it is easily fixed with some added green. I soap this room temp. Also I put mine in the freezer for an hr or so to stop gel. I actually gel very few soaps. I think if you gel avocado soap it will darken, just guessing since I have never tried it. I certainly would not cook avocado soap

I actually never superfat over 3% unless making salt bars. We have tricky plumbing and I just do not feel all the oil is good for anyones plumbing. That is just my opinion, and no one complains about my soap. If I want a mild soap I use oils to make the soap mild not superfat

If it does work for you than is great! But what do you mean, does the soap damage the plumbing somehow? It is very interesting I must say.
Here I think we don’t have much of that problem, all must be working fine and with some actual standards... Sometimes is good, but sometimes is just pain!

I had made once my soap by mistake at 4% SF and my skin was just peeling off, I have extremely sensitive skin. Even on 8% of SF 20% coconut oil was too much for me… So I will stay with my 8%, low CO. Plus all people ever tried mu soaps are very happy with it too. I just wonder about that avocado, I think I will go down to 5% of SF with that one.

Thank you with that post Carolyn! Now I’m not sure what to do, as I don’t have big enough freezer to place the batch in it, and I do gel all my soaps, even the one with milk and honey. Hmmm

Anyone have any experience with avocado gel soap?

The oils running down the drain contribute to stopping up the drains. Not sure why your lower superfat would "peel" your skin off. It really does not make a lye heavy soap. You also have to remember lye calcs (if you use one) have an error margin figured in. Even at 0 superfat it is not going to be lye heavy and is very mild.
Just soap cool and put your mold uncovered in a cool place. Although you may get a partial gel and if that bothers you, you will just have to go for the full gel. Nothing wrong with a gelled avocado soap it will just be a little different color. You will love the soap it makes

O well with my skin is a long story…. It has changed a lot recently, and I’m still trying to figure out what wrong with it… Nothing seems to help, my dermatologist just said that I’m ageing… Maybe that’s the reason, but it thing is something more there. O well the soap I was talking about was a not very fortunate anyway, so maybe the 4% of SF was not the only problem there.

I’m still waiting for my avocado oil. It will come tomorrow, and then I will finally make it and try how it is :) Today I received EO’s. And I have to tell you I’m absolutely in love in lime EO!!!! I’ve never smelled it before… Is just gorgeous! Now I wonder if I should mix it with anything, I think I would live it pure ;) Lime is citrus, should I add more than usual 3% otfw?

I usually use some litsea to help anchor citrus EO's. I love a good lime EO!
I was completely shocked how nice the small is. I got some lemongrass too, so I may combine them, and add some corn starch to fix the scent, as the stuff you mention, I dont have right now.
