It's not very pretty out today.. nothing is going my way. My son is up my butt every time I turn around ROFL but I decided to see if I could manage any good soap porn today.. it's not exactly what I wanted but better than a snapshot on the kitchen counter heehee

Blueberry Pomegranate

Fredericksburg Peaches & Cream

Inauguration Day

Medina Orchard Apple (this one is still soft, just cut it)

Mint Chocolate Whip

Hill Country Prickly Pear

Pumpkin Spice

Sweet Milk & Amber

Tomato Basil Salt Bars

Thanks for looking!!!

WOW. Good Porn!! So what is the trick to your salt bar? I did one today and it crumbled. Yours look super smooth.

Aww thanks guys! And nice analogy Tanya, I hadn't even thought of the caramelized part.. nifty!

Jen, I have no idea if there's a secret - those are the first salt bars I ever made! LOL

Here's the recipe though if you want it:

(1lb batch, since I'd never done it before)

water - 2oz (to dissolve lye)
lye - 2.56 oz

tomato paste (could use juice or whatever) - 4.08 oz

coconut oil 11.2oz
sunflower 4.8 oz

castor oil to superfat at 5%

I added tomato leaf FO and Sweet Basil EO before adding the salt and mixed it well (very light trace at this point) and then added salt until it looked really thick. I'd allotted 3/4lb of salt for it but didn't quite use all of it. It started looking good so I stirred to a slightly thicker (medium-ish) trace and poured it.
I unmolded a couple of hours later and cut it immediately. It still looks crumbly at the edge but if I'd have left it in the mold or uncut any longer it would've been waaaaay too hard. It's rock hard now and only a week old.

Niiiiiiice!!!!! I love the soaps, love the photos. (I'll give you a wolf whistle for those sexy soaps!) The prickly pear is gorgeous, the Inauguration Day is very clever, and the tomato basil is my absolute fave pic. Those are all just beautiful.

very nice! I like the various "props" you used.
I so need to work on my own photos...

I just took another look and realised that in the Sweet Milk & Amber soap pic the milk is still flowing!!! Wow.....it's a shame you don't live on my side of the world so I could use you in your professional photographer capacity.

Tanya :)

I love them all! Amazing that you could do all of that with a kid sticking by. You must have an amazing kid! The salt bars look amazing. I'm wanting to try it. Thanks for the instructions. What type of salt are you using?

Tanya, send me some soaps and I'll do some for you! (FREE if you let me keep the soap hahaha) I do it for a lot of my friends' products (jewelry, cleaning products, etc.)

I used regular table salt for the salt bars - it's what I had on hand. I may try with a chunkier salt like sea salt or epsom salts but IDK yet :)

And yes my son is amazing - he's the sweetest kid EVER. My daughter is pretty awesome too but she was at her Nana's this week  - I wish you guys could meet them, they're the light of my life... <3

Lil....do you really mean that? I will be happy to gift you with my soap if you can make it look sexy like yours! I am currently working on developing a range to sell at markets and online (when I organise a website  ) and your pics would be such an attraction for web-based sales! It will be some time off yet......need to actually make all the batches....lol

Tanya :)

Of course I do! I'd be happy to :) Just make sure you let me know what kind they are, etc. so I can prop them correctly!
:D
