Ask for baby soap?

Is this possible to make baby soap with CP and NaOH? Have you a recipe for it?

CP is, indeed, made with NaOH.

basically, you want to have a gentle, conditioning bar, with low cleansing level. oils like olive, sweet almond, and rice bran are some good ones to use.

Only thing on a baby should be Castile IMO.

I would make a bastille recipe with olive oil and a bit of castor oil to improve the lather a bit. Just remember that there are no numbing agents like Comercial baby detergents so keep away from eyes.

I made a lovely bastille olive oil soap with like 5% castor oil and it came out wonderful. I left it unscented to keep it as mild as possible and i made it back in december time and have only this week started to use it on my baby girl. The longer the cure the better otherwise it will be really soft. Its really nice to be able to make soap for your little ones as you know exactly whats going on their skin! Please do not use any soap on babies. Pediatricians recommend using only water to wash infants before they are at least 6 months old.

I was wondering if this would be better for babies (over 6 months) than the traditional castile, as the pH will be a bit lower... (leaving out the oatmeal)

I absolutely would not use that bar on a infant or small child. Baking soda can be very irritating to some people and the last thing a baby needs is exfoliation. Plain castile or a gentle bastile really is the only way to go.
I may be in the minority but personally, I think CP is a bad idea for babies/toddlers. It burns the eyes so much worse then store bought bars. My first grand child is due any day and there is no way I'll make soap for him until he is at least two. I much prefer a gentle tear free detergent based liquid wash.

I'm with Obsidian, i would not use a soap with baking soda on infants. Baking soda can be harsh even for adult skin.

My 15 month old niece has been using my soap since she was prolly 6 months old. I made a gm bastille with high SF for her that's been cured for at least 3 months. Her skin is great so far. But for hair, she's still using a tear free shampoo, otherwise she could scream during wash

Y'all do realize that when doctors talk about not using soap on infants, they are referring to syndet bars, right? The problems with syndet are many and varied. PEG, SLS, etc, etc. I would not use any soap on the baby's forehead or around the eyes, but other than that, I would not hesitate to use hand made soap that is low cleansing, high conditioning, free of color, scent, and additives.

Do infants need soap baths to be clean? Not necessarily. But you are going to want to truly clean(with some sort of soapy product) their bottoms, and the creases in their arms and legs. Remember to rinse well. Or use a baby wipe. But I am getting mixed opinions from doctors on the safety of those these days.

Whatever your child's pediatrician says to do, is what you should do. Do, however, be sure to explain to them that your soap is free of all the chemicals and still contains all of its glycerin. Maybe give them a bar or two to try out.

Thanks Obsidian & Seven - I was thinking of the pH, hadn't considered the aspects of exfoliation etc...
I'm not making any soap for babies, it was just a thought I had.
