I did a slab mold and squirted some neon purple on top, then kinda swirled it around, it turned pink and purple, looks cool.

I've only done it with black and only a little bit, which is just as well because it goes everywhere when water hits it.

I've swirled mica in just a little oil. It can look really cool but I have found out that with the oil in there, you can't use too much or it's too much oil in one spot and can cause DOS from such superfatting in one small area. It's a fantastic effect, though! I plan to try micas in water for swirling as well-solves the problem with the superfatting issue but I don't know if it will pour and swirl the same way.

Using colorants...

Hey Honor, those bars really look pretty nice…Now I know what I can do with all the neon colors I have that I was afraid to use….lol…
Newbie, I tried using my Peak colorants and mixing them with just a tiny bit of oil …and then swirling them into the soap right at trace…BIG MISTAKE. The color never really mixed in with the rest of the soap and I had to cut the top of the colored part of the bars off, throw that away and re-batched the rest. A later email from Peak tells me never, never mix any of their colors with oil, only WATER. I have since used their colors with only water with success. Your bars and honor’s look terrific... Makes me want to make some more soap…lol

Jerry, I don't use Peak's colorants, I use TKB micas. I wonder if they are similar. I picked up the mica and oil swirl from Amanda Griffin but I do know that if you overdo, it's dreadful. Too much oil on the top and it never cures. I have had to shave off the tops of soaps when I've used too much because it's just soft and sloppy. I haven't used water yet because some micas disperse in oils, although I have some that will in water. I plan to try it, but I'll have to see how it pours; that's the nice part about the oil. THanks for the head's up about Peak's warning!

Good point newbie, yeah, I’ve been there with the soft sloppy tops and as you, had to cut that entire gunk off the top…lol. Did save the good part of the bars though. I know about some of the colorants mixing with oil….and only oil. So, it’s a good point to be sure and check with whats right to mix with what….I learned the hard way…lol.
Next time I order colorants though I’m going with the powdered mica’s and the like…just easier to work with from what the pro’s tell me, but my liquid colorants are ok since I'm learning to work correctly with them.
