Any negatives of placing soap in freezer?

Hi! My goat's milk and beer soap has been partially gelling so I started placing it in the freezer over night then in the fridge for 24 hours. This did the trick of preventing partial mold but I am curious if there are any negative consequences to the soap of doing this?

In my limited experience, the soaps I put in the freezer for at least overnight or longer to prevent gel all end up with a bit of a crystalline/gritty feel to them.

Nope, many others do the same thing. Just remember that it can take 72 hours for the saponification process to complete when not jelling. Also, your soap may remain soft a bit longer than usual so may not be able to unmold right away.

Nope.

No. I prevent gel and overheating in the process when I make gm soap by freezer half a day, fridge another 6-8 hrs. No problems. Just a nice creamy color as a result! :wink:

I don't gel most of my soaps. I really prefer the creamy feel of bars that don't gel. I definitely don't get any gritty texture.

I've had 3 recipes, standard ingredients like palm, co, oo, castor put in freezer for at least 12 hours that came out slightly gritty. not sure anyone else noticed. Two were scented with citrus eo's, one with fir eo. Great soaps otherwise...I used the same recipes since....only didn't put in freezer, and there was no grittiness. Be interesting to see if anyone else has experience with this.

I don't usually use palm so that may be the difference.
