Getting fed up now another failed batch of Bubbling Bath Bombs n more waisted ingrediants, still crumbly... This is getting expensive now. Best give up :((

Hi no there not fizzing there crumbly n a bit soft, using oil n cocoa butter to bind as they always fizz if i use Whitch hazel ect. So not sure if iam not using enough oil/butter? Do you know if I add kaolin clay this will help with hardness. Will have a couple more goes. :/

Cool thank you recipe is :-

250 g Bicarbonate soda
125g Citric Acid
24g Slsa

1 1/2. Teaspoon Cocoa Butter
1/2 teaspoon Advocado oil

1 teaspoon fragrance

I used the oils to blend when I squeezed it it stayed formed in my hand the batch wasn't dough like I packed it into. Cupcake moulds n left it till the following day, took one out of the mould and it broke in half n crumbled.

Next batch I made recipe

500g Bicarb
63g Citric
47g cream of tartar
80g Slsa (think this is to much works out about 12% :#)
2 t fragrance

1t jojobah oil
Cocoa butter

This recipe I got from YouTube it was in cup measurements but I weighed the cups out.

Hope you can help

if they are not fizzing you have a problem. what happens, exactly?

tell us your exact steps, please, and what happens after.
also, where did you get the components?

Sorry they are fizzing n bubbling when put in water. There just crumbly n a bit soft.

With the first recipe I just did the ratio 2:1 Bicarb n citric n then. Added a % (of slsa for bubbles think is was 6 1/2% )

I sifted ingrediants together n added oils to the consistency I thought was right n packed tightly in moulds.

The second recipe I got from YouTube the ingrediants were in cups I used my measuring cups but weighed them out to. The added cream of tartar helped stabalize the bubbles, but I think it was way to much slsa? Not really sure if theses measements are any good.

your first recipe sounded good, though i've never used slsa so i'm not sure of its effects in bath bombs. as for the crumbliness, it really helps to spray the batch with witch hazel until you can make a ball with your hand and it doesn't fall apart. that's how i know it's ready to pack into the mold. good luck! :)

Your first recipe is pretty similar to the one I use although I use turkey red oil for my oil and I also have salt and cornstarch in mine. I use powdered surfactant at 8-10% of my total recipe.

General rule of thumb is 2 bicarbonate to 1 citric, so the first recipe looks better balanced, the second not so much.

I am not super experienced but I find that the molding is a pretty delicate balance - too much in the mold and they break in half. Too little and they crumble. Also, I unmold mine almost right away (I use a meatballer). If it breaks, I throw it back in the mixture and try again.

What are your cupcake molds made of? rigid plastic? silicone? Are they single or multi-cavity? What's your technique for extracting them?

Hi I use paper cupcake cases, but I put thrn into a metal cupcake pan n pack the in really hard. I think your right about the first recipe. Do you find your bubble last, in my first batch they didn't last that long, and I was told to use the cream of tartar to stabalize them. In the second recipe thy lasted much longer but don't know if that was because I used more slsa. Iam having another try today.

Thanks for your help :)

I'd get rid of the paper liners; I don't think they help. I'd try just packing into the metal and then gently tap it to release.
