I just got off the phone with a woman from a company I used to deal with when I worked for a different cosmetic company. I was setting up an account to buy Aloe Vera wholesale - it's way cheaper than buying it anywhere else.

Anyway, I asked her about freeze dried or powdered AV powder. She said they had done tests at OSU and found that the process takes away all the reasons you would want to use aloe.

Have any of you used powdered? Do you think the regular juice is better?

Oh my! I was just thinking to purchase some. Very handy and not have to be concerned about expiration dates as with the liquid.

Yeah, Im kinda concerned. This AV Co is the best place in the country. They have grow their own AV, and have been in business for over 50 years. I trust them completely. When it comes to Aloe, they are IT.

Yes, aloe powder is a great styptic but it doesn't act at all like fresh aloe either in soap or in direct form.

The powered aloe can be irritating to skin in even very moderate amounts, but in small amounts .3-.5% in a soap it has some soothing properties and makes a good additive when combined with something else that has conditioning properties.

I use it combined with senna (aka neutral henna) and a little lanolin or jojoba wax (lanolin for people soap, jojoba for my dog's soap.)

I don't know anything at all about using fresh aloe in soap, but I hope this helps a little.
