I am getting ready to make some aloe and calendula soap for a friend and I am not sure how to go about it. I have some 100x aloe powder, calendula extract and flowers. Should I add the extract and powder to my lye/water, or add them at trace? I am pretty sure the flowers would need to go in at trace. And does anyone have a suggestion on how much extract and aloe to use? I am making a two pound batch, 25 oz of oils.
Thanks for the help!!

I add the petals to the lye water, they dont discolor to brown but stay nice and yellow, I think some people actually let the flowers dissolve somehow in the lye water but when I made calendula soap they did not dissolve when I put them in the lye solution, maybe its because I did not discount my H20 so it was not that strong...
ETA, i am not sure about the aloe, can you mix the powder with a little of the oil from your recipe and add it at trace?

On the WSP website it says to mix with water. The usage rate is .2 to. 5 percent. I think I will mix it with the water if I don't find anything different by tomorrow. The calendula is recommended at 4-7 % but I am not sure when to add it.

then you can save a little water from and mix the aloe with it and add it at trace, I would just hate to add it too early and let the lye monster eat it up, it would seem like the later the better for something like that. Not sure when the best time to add the petals, I add them to the lye water. I would add the extract at trace if it were me.

That makes sense. I will probably do that. I am going to get started on it in the morning. I will let you know what it does.

Got it made yesterday and so far it looks really pretty. I added the flowers to my lye water and the aloe and calendula extract at trace. My stick blender chopped up the flowers in bits, but I think it looks nicer that way. It is a pretty yellow color right now.
