I have been colouring my soap with Alkanet root by grinding it up, stirring it into a cup of the soap, then filtering the cup of soap back into the main pot through a siv to avoid lumps of alkanet and stirring it in.

Would it be ok if i whizzed my Alkanet in the food processor (or used alkanet powder) and stirred it straight into the soap? It seems a lot less hassle but im afraid of it staining people's baths! How much do most people use??

I've always infused my alkanet root in oil and added it to the soap at trace. I just soak the root for a few hours then strain it through cheesecloth. I've never had it stain anything. I've never tried using powder so can't help you there.

I've never used it, but your question sparked my interest.

I knew I had seen it for sale at Texas Naturals (my favorite place for natural colorants).
They have an informative little blub about how to use Alkanet, both the root and the powder.

I'm going to get a little with my next order.
