I notice they are always perfect squares. Can someone tell me which mold would be best to make aleppo soap?

Are you going to make a slab-type mold? If so, that sounds like a good plan. I were making Aleppo bars myself, I would just use my slab mold with the high edges, pour the batter up to the right height, and then cut the finished slab into blocks with my trusty, sharp kitchen knife, which always gives my soap clean, sharp edges.

Hope all goes well!

IrishLass :)

I would do that, but I read the bars at 2x2 traditionally, and my mold width is 3.75, so I'd be a little short when cutting. I think I'd rather use an 8x8x2 pan (or something evenly divisible by 2). I have a brownie pan like this, but it bevels inward at the bottom. So I am thinking about just lining cardboard or building one if cardboard wouldn't work for some reason.

I agree. With the cost of the silicon mold you can get a descent pine wood mold with reasonable size from Lowe's.

I made out of at a large flat rate shipping box from the post office.

It is 12x12x2.

So would this require ~115oz of oil to fill? That seems like a lot; just want to make sure my math is right.

I hope this link is helpful.

Okay so it looks like my math is correct. Dang that is a lot of oil. I will have to reduce this mold.

why you don't start with few test bars, write down all your observations, try them, share with your friends and ask them what they think........and gradually make bigger batches.

I made a 6x6x2 mold out of cardboard this morning and lined it with wax paper (all I had on hand). Wax paper should be fine with hot process soap, though, right? Since the reactions are all done by the time it's molded. I read with CP it can react with the soap.

6x6.2 is 9 bars and ~28oz, which is much better.
