Okay my sister is bugging me to make some men's aftershave, so my questions are these...

1.) How difficult would it be to make?
and B.) Can someone point me to some recipe jump off points?

Thanks!

Edited to add: that I found an interesting recipe that calls for Structure XL and hydrolyzed wheat protein and was wondering if I can substitute with anything I may have on hand here. the structure xl is supposed to be used as a gelling agent. Isnt it just a corn starch derivative? Can I use corn starch?

The HWP is supposed to add silkiness and a slight "film" quality on the skin. There's already cyclo in it. Any ideas what I can use to give those same qualities?

I'm gonna do some playing but I'd rather not 86 a ton of ingredients in the process if anyone has some good ideas. Thank you!

what about using an FO or EO and vodka? i have seen a lot of recipes in books using just those.

Yeah, I've seen lots of those too. Or some with just witch hazel and alcohol...maybe a splash of glycerine. I guess I was looking for something a little extra special. My sister wants to give them as gifts so I wanted to make sure they were good recipes.

After shaves and colognes are not hard to make. You can get formulator's or perfumer's alcohol at Snowdrift Farms, along with the instructions on making colgones. For aftershaves, just use more water. I made an Old Spice duplicate by mixing equal parts of allspice e.o. and sandalwood e.o.

Thanks, lsg!! I'm off to check it out!
