Hi again
My sister suffers from terrible adult acne, which is now scaring her face :-/ She has been to the doctors numerous times. Yesterday she went again, and again they have given her a course of antibiotics. This helps until she finishes the antibiotics, but then it comes back. The acne is painful and she has only had some relief after using salt in a face wash which stings when applied. Yesterday she was in tears as she is sick of taking ab's and fed up. SOOO I wanted to ask you lovely people if there is any soap I can make her that can help??
I've been looking into it and heard Rhassoul Moroccan Clay is good?
She's now booked to see a specialist, but has also been on a vegan to see if that helps..

This leads me to my next question... does it matter what EO/Oils go into the soap? How much is washed away? (if not all?) Or affected by Lye during curing? Can soap block pores?

Thank you for your help!!

Personally soap makes my acne worse. I have to use a nonmedicated cleanser such as cetaphil or Loreal 360. I have heard from some people that Salt Bars work well for acne but I had no such luck.

There is a thread about this here

I would also add that when my friend's kid had a hard time with acne the best thing they found was that at night before bed, a gentle cleansing followed by a very light layer of neosporin or polysporin antibiotic cream topically.

Salt bars do help, and I have also received positive reviews for my soaps with activated charcoal.

I add dead sea mud and rhousell clay to my acne soaps. The teenagers that use them love them. You can also google non-comedogenic oils to see which are less likely to clog pores.

I spoke with a friend of mine who used to work for a dermatologist. She said that he would recommend to his patients to go home and put a thin layer of vaseline on their skin. It sounds crazy, but the craziest thing was that it worked! The reasoning behind it was that we wash our face and try to eliminate the acne. This causes our skin to produce MORE oil. So, by adding oil, you eliminate the need for the skin to work overtime.

I would recommend that she wash her face nightly with the most mild soap available. Then use an oil that is very light, like evening primrose oil, borage oil, argon oil as her moisturizer. Then in the morning, use an oil like avocado oil on her face before she gets into the shower and then just wipe off the excess. Moisturize for the day.

Google "oil cleansing method"

I have not heard of anyone that has used this particular method so I can't speak to its efficacy, but this does bring up the very good point that over-cleansing can and will lead to increased oil production in the skin, so milder is better!

Thanks guys for your info. I am scribbling it all down!
I will update if she finds something that helps.

Salt bars might be worth a try.

I use a variation of the acne soap recipe on the teach soap site and it has provided relief for many people I know with acne, including the deep cystic kind. One of the stylists at my salon had horrible facial acne and she now believes that her skin is extremely sensitive and the medications were making things worse. The soap has clay, oats, a high % of grapeseed oil, and tea tree and lavender EOs.

Am I being very dim by asking where the teach soap website is?
I'd like to see the recipe.

Where do I find it?

Thanks guys I reaaly appreciate your help :)
