Hello! My name is Jill and I just did my first batch of solid shampoo. I poured it in the mold and waited 24 hours, then went to take it out over some foil. I noticed that the very bottom of it was still liquidy so put it back into the mold, spilling some of the liquid in the process. I wiped it up with paper towels and put the foil and paper towels in the trash. a few minutes later I noticed a hissing sound coming from the trash. I sprayed some vinegar in it to neutralize it, but then it started smoking a bit. That's when it went outside. What can you tell me about this?? Also, I am looking forward to getting to know you!!

KEEP AWAY FROM ALUMINUM WHEN MAKING SOAP. NO ALUMINUM. Unless you just want to take big chances. It does not mix well with sodium hydroxide. Chemical reaction gives off nasty fumes and can cause fire.

If you had caustic liquid in the bottom of your mold, it probably separated through overheating or incomplete emulsification. Examine your soap very carefully for lye pockets or crystals and do a zap or pH test when you cut it. It could be caustic.
And yes, aluminum and lye in combination can produce flammable explosive gas. Glad you didn't get hurt.
