First of all I want to thank Kitn for helping to keep me calm while these bars sat. I was worried because they never heated up. But they turned out fine.

My last bars I colored with .5oz ultramarine and this one I only used .3oz. (the older bar gives blue lather)

The one on the left is the last batch and the one on the right is the newest one. They are both scented with Blue Agave.

Thanks for looking!

 Aww shucks , you are most welcome . My first salt bars did the same thing .

That color is fantastic , I love it . Well done :D

Valor, did I miss where the pix are?

Edit: Ok, I refreshed and they showed up that time. Very very pretty! That's a knockout blue!

Love the color! What type of salt do you use? I used table salt - not too sure I like it. Tastes like salt, too :)

Awwwww! Thanks guys!

Godiva: I used sea salt from the whole foods store for like $1.98 a LB.

Tincanac: I highly recommend salt bars to anyone who even thinks they might be interested, because you will love them! I can't keep them around. Everyone wants to use them. Even people who say that it will dry their skin end up coming back for it.

Salt Bar FREAK OUT - help, help

Ok - I need some help - I have been trying to come up with a salt bar recipe. I have read through loads of posts on Salt Bars. I have sort of come up with a recipe based on the advice and some soapcalc experiments. Can someone please advise/(tweak if you think I am going to need tweaking) whether this would be a decent recipe for a salt bar. (I only know metric so I'm sorry for not including the other system)

50% Salt (500g - 1/2 of the total weight of oil(1Kg)
30% Coconut (300g)
20% Castor (200g)
25% Grapeseed (250g)
25% Palm (250g)
2 Tablespoons of Sugar added to water before lye (to increase bubble factor)

Will it work? Soap Calc (without figuring in the salt and sugar) puts it in within acceptable ranges of their table for regular soap - but will it work for a salt bar.

Anyone know, anyone help? Please???.....if I have made you crazy before with all these insane, anal, persistent, unrelentless questions or if I have offended you with my somewhat bizarre aggressive humour in earlier posts - could you wash that away and find it in your glorious soapperience to advise a poor, nervous, insecure soaper???

I am so freaking nervous and like totally insecure about making salt bars - I dont know why, I may have lost my soapmojo!

On the plus side though - I made "Matcha" (green tea) soap that looks a lot like matcha.

LMAO Tincanac

I figure that the biggest mistake anyone can make is being afraid of making one in the first place. And that is m philosophy on life.

I personally think that any recipe that you think will make a good soap is good for salt bars as well.I don't use a special recipe and I love the bars. I don't get "OMG WOW" lather, but that's alright...I get enough and it's all good.

Your recipe looks fine to me. 8)

Forget about SoapCalc for salt bars. It knows nothing about them.

Salt bars lather from high Coconut. The salt really changes things up and there is no drying effect.

If you just want to try salt bars, do 100% coconut oil and see how you like them. :)

I made 100% co salt bars and several people that I work with told me that it is the favorite of all the bars I've brought in.

I just used regular old table salt with 80% salt ppo.
