I am so Scathing mad about sitting here for 2 full days due to Fedex that now I will no longer buy my lye from Duda Diesel :(
I still do not have my Lye even after another call 1/2 hr ago with being told he is in my area... bs

Does ANYONE know of a place I can pick up 50# pail/bag of Lye in Mass or NH ?

edit to add that I have Emailed Duda to see if they will send any other way and they do not. I told them that unfortunately I won't be buying from them due to Fedex issues for 2 full days. I did say it is not their fault but wanted them to know that they lost my business due to Fedex.

It's absolutely your right as a customer to take your business elsewhere, but you might want to think if this is going to be a useful long-term strategy for you.

What will you do when an order from another company or with another carrier isn't delivered on time? I can absolutely say that delays will happen eventually with any carrier you can think of, so it's good to have a strategy in mind for handling this issue that works for you in the long run. I use USPS, FedEx, and UPS, both as a customer and as a business owner. Each and every one of them has had delivery problems from time to time. I don't want it to happen often, but I accept that it will happen occasionally.

I occasionally have to deal with customers who are frustrated with delays in shipping. I won't bore you with the stories, but suffice to say, I would feel unjustly penalized if I was the business owner in the situation you describe. I think it's vital for a business owner to provide good customer service and to choose reliable carriers, no question, but I also think it's important for the customer to be realistic too.

If I know a customer has a time sensitive expectation, I recommend they choose (and pay for) a shipping method with guaranteed delivery. If the customer opts for standard delivery (FedEx ground, UPS ground, USPS priority, first class or parcel post, etc.) because it costs less, I make sure they understand the date of delivery is an estimate and only an estimate, not a guarantee. I'm not sure if you paid for a guaranteed deliver method or not, so take this for what it's worth -- it may not fit your situation.

We all need to accept the inevitable problems and delays with grace, if for no other reason than someday the shoe will be on the other foot. We will be the ones who have not met another person's expectations and will be hoping the other party will cut us some slack.

I know you're frustrated, but having once been able to use their lye in the first years of my soap making, I have to say it's by far my favorite.( although I didn't like their label and used to cover it up; I am raising confident, intelligent girls here after!) (No longer offered on Amazon so I had to find something new. It will be worth the wait! After all, you won't have to order again for quite a while, and next time (if there is a next time), you'll know to just order it a couple days extra before you need it.

Hope the delivery guy is coming today!

I've been spoiled with Amazon Prime. The worse wait time for me (except for a missing and never found order) was one week. Then I remembered those rare occasions as a kid where my mom ordered something special for us kids, or Christmas gifts from a catalog and delivery took up to 12 weeks! Any one else remember the good old days?

My post here is LOOKING FOR LOCAL LYE that I can pick up.

DON'T get me wrong, I LOVE their Lye. I just finished their other pail I got. My issue isn't even with it not coming till today.

My issue is being Lied to by Fedex ! "It's on the way, in the truck... oh no it isn't (at 4:30 pm) snag got you ! I will make sure it's there tomorrow morning...." It got here at 4pm after 5, yes 5 phone calls. Again don't tell me it will be here in the morning and then it isn't.
And the Drivers are Independent Drivers, not even employed by Fedex !
Let me say this again... I SAT here for 2 FULL DAYS waiting because I HAVE to SIGN for it and they said it was coming. That would be 2 full days of No Paycheck, can you afford that ?
@DeeAnna it is a 50# pail of Lye, it HAS to go ground and HAS to be signed for. I do not have a choice for that. I know all deliveries COULD have issues but don't say it is on the truck on it's way deliver by 2:30 when it didn't even get on the truck and you KNEW IT.

The unfortunate thing is that Duda will suffer and so will anyone else that mails Fedex because i refuse to get anything from them. This is not my 1st issue with Fedex. Maybe if people start to refuse to do business with them then they will smarten up and be better.

FedEx is not my friend either.
I hate being lied to and not being able to resolve issues because of the "independent" drivers line. When I am expecting something to be delivered by them I have to watch MY NEIGHBORS HOUSE for the delivery. Even though it is clearly marked to be delivered to my house it goes next door. I can usually get there before his dog chews it up. Now...

This is a problem that keeps me from having things shipped to me via FedEx.

One solution is to have the shipment held at the nearest FedEx distribution center, rather than have it delivered to your home. Then you can pick your own time to get it. You might still have to get it during your work hours, but at least you have more control over the timing. Or have the shipment sent to your work address if your employer will allow that. Or if you live in an urban area, there are shipping centers that you can have stuff shipped to and the staff there signs for the delivery. Or you can buy local, but you will still have to qualify for an account and pick it up, so that's not an entirely hassle free solution either. I hope you find a solution that works better for you -- best of luck.

I see; I commented without knowing the whole story - my apologies. I thought you were just eager to make soap, not missing work to sign for something. Yeah, time to find a new supplier. And as for FedEx....are they 3 years old? Two days of "It's on the truck", but no delivery - they didn't think you'd notice that???

Found this one - they sell in the quantities you are after (they sell KOH too):

Worldchem
76 Northeastern Boulevard, Suite 33B, Nashua, NH 03062
Phone: (603) 204 5031 Fax: (603) 204 5039

Thank you. For some reason there was nothing showing up for Nashua. I will be calling them today.
Edit, actually they don't have a warehouse in NH :(
edit again, I emailed them and they are not here, but in PA or VA

That's weird!

I wonder if they would be able to recommend someone close then? (no harm in calling to ask ;))

I have purchased 50 lb. bags from a chemical supplier before and it's a great way to go if you can. You might also try cleaning products suppliers (small companies that supply cleaning supplies to other companies). I have gone that route too although the price was higher than from the chemical supplier. WSP has the best price on lye if you want to forgo the above.

I was emailing them back and forth but they didn't know anyone else... or just didn't want to say as they were sure to tell me that they ship ;)

I had tried a few places of cleaning suppliers and no one emailed me back. The Chem suppliers were good about emailing back. I got 2 emails back with in 2 hours of emailing yesterday. I might call Jedwards as that is where I get my Oils and see if they know a place near them that has Lye... since I have to drive down there anyway.
