Hey everyone. My first batch has cured nicely. My 2nd batch was a "mechanic soap" that I molded in a Pringles can & added apricot seeds for exfoliation. I did add a mica to it that was meant for bath salts. I had it lying around so I figured I would try it. It was supposed to be a deep blue, but it came out a mauve kind of color. I then tried the color in glycerin m&p & after a few days it was light pink. My 3rd batch went wrong, not sure where. When I went to unmold it, some of the oils just seeped out & it ended up super lye heavy. I used the same formula as the first batch so I'm not sure what happened.

But, my 4th batch I just made & it was CPHP. I added some strawberry & kiwi fragrance oils to it. The shoe box I had lined ended up being too big so I did an emergency transfer. I tried to use a purple mica from the same kit, thinking maybe it was the heat that turned the first color mauve (or the sun for the glycerin, it's by someone's kitchen window). It looks really ugly, but it smells pretty good. I'm having issues trying to attach a pic, but as soon as I remember how I will upload it. I resized it already.

YAY! I added a pic!

Different varieties of soap will shift their colors as they dry. For me the soap has to dry 2 weeks minimum in the winter, and 4 weeks in summer, in a special drying rack.

Direct sunlight does funky things to soap color (bleaching/lightening is common) especially in south/west facing retail windows for up-front displays.

Direct sunlight with heat can shrink exposed bars a bit, making some surfaces concave. Glycerin can be drawn to the surface. But the soap will still work nicely. :p

Make sure that you keep you curing soap bundled up and nice and warm as it cures, for a day or two.

Congrats on all your batchs except for the 3rd one - I'm sorry you had problems with it. Is it possible to rebatch or something? I've been lucky (knock on wood) and haven't had a lye heavy batch.

I have problems attaching pics, too. You may think one of your soaps is ugly but we're are own worst critics. I like mauve so I'd probably think it's lovely.

It's cut & it looks alright. I'm hoping the color changes. I wasn't expecting it to work, since the other one didn't. Below is the top view of a cut piece. The scent is awesome.

And because I hadn't posted before, this pic is of my 2nd batch I made. It's a little higher in coconut oil to cleanse more & has apricot seeds for exfoliation. I made it for a friend who works on cars.

Thanks guys. I had hoped that the purple would work, since I was making it hot process. As long as the scent stays the same, I will be fine if nothing changes w/the color. It smells soooo good.

The round one was supposed to be blue, but I also did that cold process so I didn't know if that made a difference.

All in all I'm happy with them. I've been using things I already had readily available to make them. The colorants were bath salt micas, not soap micas. The mold was a shoebox. I'm hoping to get some money & try for a TOG mold & some good scents & the correct colors.
