Just finished cutting my second ever batch. I used a Pringles can for a mold after reading about it here, didn't bother lining it, just torn it off like a can of biscuits.
I used half goat milk and half homemade blueberry wine for the liquid, frozen before adding the lye (I boiled the wine down by 1/3 to remove alcohol). To my surprise, the mixture turned a yucky dirt brown color, then lightened to a caramel color. When I added the lye mix to the oils it came out a butterscotch color. This didn't happen with my first batch of plain goat milk soap, I'm guessing the color change was due to the wine?
Put it in the freezer for 24 hours, then the fridge and finally allowed it to come up to room temp. When I pulled it out of the freezer it was cream colored. Since then it has started to darken some, will it continue to darken?
Picture time:
Also, the piece on the bottom of the can had this odd half-moon portion that was darker colored than the rest, any idea what caused this? Is it a partial gel? I thought gel happened from the middle and spread out?
Thanks for all the help!
