Alright, all supplies are in... I feel a batch coming by the end of the weekend.

Scratching my head on how to get the palm oil out of the bottle though. I'm assuming I just melt it down and pour the amount needed and let the rest solidify again for future use?!?

yay! please post pics of your soap later on, would love to see it :)

i have never seen a solid palm oil (because where i live is hot and humid, only coconut sometimes turn half solid and white). is it THAT hard to scoop some from the container? must be really cold where you are.

Soapy J, I would melt it down ONCE and then pour the whole lot into a wide bucket, once and for all. Then when you need some next time, just scoop all the way to the bottom to get all layers and you should be good to go. (Whoever thought up putting solid oils into bottles in the first place should be fired.)

Thanks, Tienne. I'll make a dollar store trip and pick up some containers...

Seven, it's only about 18 degrees F here this morning. We keep our house around 68 so I'm assuming that's still not warm enough.

I melt my oil in the car, just set it on the dash & in a few hours pour it out. I divide them into the correct weight for my recipe & separate all the oil into ziploc bags.
I have also had DH just cut the bottle off the oil. Plop the oil blob onto freezer paper then divide it up into bags.

With palm I've been told you need to melt down the entire batch and mix it before weighing out your amount as parts of the oil separate as it cools and hardens, so it won't be a consistent product otherwise. Coconut oil doesn't have this problem though and is safe to measure out while solid.

So depending on the size of your palm, I would melt it all down each time or melt it all down once, mix thoroughly, and separate into smaller containers to then melt each time you're measuring.

I would much prefer the 1lb bag like my cocoa butter came in... wholesale supplies, if you're reading this, that's my only complaint!
