Help!
First ever batch, HP
300g coconut oil
44g lye (NaOH)
114g water
First error - small batch hard to mix but ended up with what seemed to be a light to medium trace
Used a Pyrex bowl over a saucepan to heat
Mix basically looked like it was melting into a clear liquid no waves, no...
Hello one and all.
I'm wanting to make hp avocado soap but I'm not sure when the best time to add the avocado is. I would like to add it after the cook. Thanks for all the help,

Hey! I've tried searching this on the web and haven't come up with anything... Has anyone ever tried soaking or spraying their salt bars with water to rehydrate them to stop crumbling? I made my first salt bars yesterday HP and am very happy with the results. I cut when they were still hot and...
Hi, I'm pretty new to this forum. I'm posting because I made a batch of hot process soap that didn't go through the phases normally described. It went from trace pretty much to mashed potatoes with a little applesauce in between. But it never got to vaseline stage - at that point it had been...
Have you tried a low-water discount in hot process and liked the result? Was it too difficult to plop into rectangular molds?
I use a high-water for a looser consistency for plopping into molds. But, I'm running into glycerin rivers, and am wanting to switch to low-water to reduce rivers...
:cry::cry:
I wanted to make white or at least ivory like color with HP.
But it only came out tan, a dark ugly tan that is.
Whilst I was stirring after turning the heat off, the color was really tan-like so I mixed in the white oxide (it's the only white I had in hand at the moment).
That...
Hi,
I made my first batch of Hot Process soap with Honey & Oatmeal.
I just cut the soap and found these white blobs(?) here and there in the middle.
(Please see attached picture. Kind of looks like white choc chip in oatmeal cookie)
I never got them with Cold process so I am very confused.
I...
Hello guys, I have been making CP soaps until now and have just ordered a crockpot and want to try HP soaps. The reason is that I feel a need to control what remains in the soaps and I dont want all my precious get damaged by lye.
Hope my premise is right and that it's the same reason why most...

Hi All,
I have been making and selling shaving soap (hot process) for about 2 months. Sales have been very good. My challenge has been keeping up with current demand. Right now, I use an 8 quart crock pot (that largest I have been able to find). From that, I am able to make about 23 shave...
I plan to make hot process soaps mostly, so I can add my EO and superfats after the saponification has finished so they retain their scent/properties better. More work, and sadly, very limited design options. But I care more about the quality and use of the final bar than how pretty it looks...
Hello
I am trying to formulate an ethical vegetarian super-moisturizing dog shampoo bar. My dog has SUPER sensitive skin, and needs lots of added moisture. Currently the only shampoo I have ever used that has NOT made her super itchy is a Human Argan Oil Shampoo (Live Clean) that is so...
I am big about making stuff out of pallets so I relished the chance to make a soap mold and cutting board out of them. Of course, after I made the two I had to make some soap to test it out. So I made a batch of chamomile tea soap, I used paprika and turmeric to color it. I put the images in an...
I have been doing HP soap bars for while now but I haven't tried coloring any yet. So yesterday I becided to try coloring a soap batch with some cocoa powder to see what comes out of it. I couldn't be happier with the results!
Hey Soap-Gurus,
So I've started experimenting with the hot process method.
I bought a slow cooker like this one - it only has a "Low" and "High" temperature setting. Nothing too fancy, but not too expensive either
Anyway, during my first batch, I cooked it for a few hours and toward the...
I made a 52 oz HP batch using 1.3oz worth of EO's. The blend of: ylang ylang extra, tuberose, nutmeg and patchouli. I throttled back the usual EO PPO to 0.6 PPO for HP and used annatto for colorant. The annatto didn't really do squat and so I resorted to brambleberry red and orange. Still not...
I wasn't sure where to post this so please correct me if there is a better place. As most of you... patience is NOT my virtue! So I've been playing with my HP batches trying to get some creative results. I was pretty happy with this one. Forgive the crappy photos. I'm moving and only had my...
I finally gave up on it cooking to nuetrality and put it into a mold and then cut and left to cure like a cold process batch. That was the last week in June, '14. It's still testing pink. Will it ever cure? I didn't make the batch, it's one I talked my SIL through and I don't know what happened...
Ok, to start I'm a newbie on this forum. I make HP soaps because I don't have the space to have 100's of bars of soap curing. My recipies are all based on CP soaps and have always worked out well. I always used a lard based recipies. My niece is a vegan so she wanted me to go all plant based...
Hi,
I've run into something with my oatmilk soap that I haven't had happen before, and would love any insight. :)
I made a hot process soap using oatmilk and oats. I used 50% of the water amount for the lye. The other 50% I subbed with oatmilk, added to the pre-lye oils.
This is 24...
