Evaporated Goat milk?

2 weeks ago I made a Bastille recipe using canned evaporated goat milk. My store was out of fresh milk and I spotted the canned kind and since it was already concentrated I figure I could skip the freezing part. I used a 1:1 lye/water solution, added to the oils then put the entire can into the mix. It worked great!.. No burning or weirdness.. Popped it into the fridge and cut in a few days
. Now, 2 weeks or so later the bars smell like perm solution I honestly have early 90's hair salon flashbacks when I smell them! I expected the smell to dissipate, but so far no. I used CC bedtime bath to fragrance and I've never had trouble with it before. Anyone else tried this stuff and gotten stinky soap?

i've only used fresh and powdered gm, so i can't comment much. i do appreciate the heads up though. i think i'm going to stick with either fresh or powdered :D
 
I've used canned goats milk before but I used it half and half with water. Used the water to mix the lye and added the gm at emulation. I didn't notice a stinky smell
 
I use canned gm for my lye solution and always get that ammonia smell when mixing it. The smell dissapates after a day or two. Never stayed like yours. Perhaps it may mellow out after a longer cure. Don't know. Did you do a water discount? Maybe it just needs more time for the moisture/water to evaporate.

I didn't care for mixing my canned gm in my lye solution so now I only add it directly into my soap batter after I have added my lye. No more ammonia smell. Since I use canned gm I use the water I would use to mix the gm for the lye solution and the concentrated gm straight out of the can goes directly into the batter at light trace.
 
I didn't water discount. My lye was 9.5 and I mixed with the same amount of water. The canned milk was 10 ounces (I think) and I made up the additional 3.5 ounces I needed for my full liquid amount.

I think I'll stick with the fresh frozen GM method as well. The one I made almost a year ago is still my favorite soap to date!
 
I use the canned milk, but I don't mix it with the lye. I do 1/2 of my liquid water and 1/2 canned milk, then I mix the lye with the milk. I melt my oils, and when they reach 90 or so, I pour the milk into the oils, then pour the lye water into the oils.
