I got some scrub called Sugar Lime Mojito from Avon and it smells so good. I can't wait to see your summery sounding soaps!

I made a mojito salt scrub and used a half of a lime slice soap to put in the top. Soap Queen TV shows the method for orange and lime slice soap.

So, cut the soap tonight and am pretty dismayed by the results. The scent seems to have lasted, but the soap is really streaky and I don't know why. I added some wheat grass powder as a colorant, but that doesn't seem to have been the issue.

The recipe is:

Coconut oil - 5 oz
Pomace - 6 oz
Palm - 6 oz
Shea butter - 1 oz
Rice bran oil - 1 oz
Castor oil - 1 oz
Lye - 2.7 oz
Water - 6.6 oz

Any thoughts on what is causing this?

(I am thoroughly amused by the partial gel on the sample sizes that make them look like sunflowers or starbursts!)

My first thought is stearic acid streaks, but I melted the palm down completely and mixed it well (or so I thought) before measuring.

They look very nice, I do like the way the partial gel worked out... now if we could plan it that way ;-)

bumpity-bump...

I am hoping one of the "experts" here can help brainstorm what went wrong with this batch.

I'm guessing is Stearic from your Palm...or perhaps you didn't thoroughly incorporate your wheatgrass powder...but I'm still guessing Stearic.

When I melted the palm, it was completely clear, so I am not entirely sure what I did wrong...

I have only made one batch of soap using palm, and it gave me some streaks as well. I had melted the entire bottle and shook it several times before pouring as well. I love the partial gel flowers! Perfect!

Some further digging makes me think that it is because I soaped at a low temp, roughly 90*, to increase the odds of the lime EO sticking.

I definitely want to use this scent combo again and am comfortable with soaping at just above room temps.

Any suggestions on how to avoid the streaking when soaping cool or replacement hard oils (I want to keep the coconut percentage low because it seems I am pretty sensitive to the drying effects,)

Not that I have anything meaningful to contribute... but these look a lot like some palm candles I bought a couple of years ago. I actually liked the look and so I paid money for it! So maybe this is a happy accident.

I'm quite happy with the look, but it is a quality control issue in my mind and i would much prefer to be in charge of when things like that happen... :-?

(no control issues here, no ma'am.)
