    dried milk into batter

I don't like the frozen GM mixed with lye method I've frozen fresh goat's milk into cubes (using the amount of liquid called to mix with the lye) and poured the lye over top to make a slushy method. Unfortunately, in the beginning, I had to throw out a couple of batches of soap because I...

Has anyone used this soap cutter?

Just be sure to put soap logs upside down in cutters if you have anything that could pull through the soap (like lavender buds).

    Another goat's milk question

I've made several batches of soap, using frozen goat's milk instead of water to mix with the lye. Now I make sure to stir a lot so it is fully dissolved and try to strain the mixture before adding it to the oils. My question is why do I get white swirls in this soap? It doesn't happen with...

Can't unmold soaps in plastic molds

My goat's milk soaps are super soft. I don't want to use that for mods when they are already sticking. I bought the mineral oil and used it before trying some m&p soap. That brambleberry mini gingerbread soap mold is just tricky. I think it helped for the others well, along with freezing the...

    My soap doesn't go right

You could also set your lye pitcher in a bucket of ice to cool it down.

    My soap doesn't go right

I am no expert at this, but my cp soaps and goat's milk cp soaps turn out and sell well. I always freeze my milk into cubes and add the lye to that. I use the same weight in milk cubes as the recipe calls for liquid to be added to lye. Make sure you stir until well blended. One time it had...

Can't unmold soaps in plastic molds

Anita, I tried a big mold and the hot water worked pretty well. I did a small mold and part of the soap (small details) stuck to it and peeled off. Could it be that it wasn't frozen enough or should I use warm water instead of hot because perhaps its melting the soap, making it stick.

Can't unmold soaps in plastic molds

I make cp soaps. I've bought several plastic molds from Bramble Berry. At first, all was well. But now I can't get my soaps out of several of my molds. The designs with beveled out edges popped out nicely, but the ones with straight sides are perhaps forever in the mold (short of me digging...

    Attention fresh goat's milk soapers-help!

Rachel, I strained one batch, perhaps too fine of a mesh, because the solution was thick and wouldn't all go through. Do you strain your lye solution even if you use water to mix with lye? I've never done that. It always dissolved nicely. Does anyone add the milk at trace instead of at...

    soap scum in shower

Take 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar (I brew mine in a jar for four weeks with orange or lemon rinds to make citrus vinegar) and heat it in the microwave until hot. Add a generous squirt of clear liquid dish soap and stir. Put it in a spray bottle and spray shower. Let sit 1-2 hours and it...

    Attention fresh goat's milk soapers-help!

I have been making quite a few batches of soap lately, using frozen goat's milk cubes in place of the water to mix with the lye. I also put ice in the bottom of a bucket and stirred. I just had to throw out some soap because there were undissolved lye crystals throughout the soap. I hope the...

    What causes soda ash?

So if I unmold the soap 12-24 hours after pouring and cut into bars and let sit for 4 weeks, how do you cover the bars with plastic wrap and let them cure? Or is it during the molding process that it is important to have tightly covered? Now I've been covering with freezer paper and heavy...

    Using Latex Gloves

Why don't you use heavy latex gloves until you pour the soap and then use disposable vinyl gloves when cutting and handling the soap bars. I buy the disposable vinyl gloves in a big box in the pharmacy section of the grocery store or Walmart. They feel the same to me and then no worries.

    What causes soda ash?

So what causes soda ash? I've seen whitish stuff on the top of one of my soaps, and then once cut, it seemed to form on the cut sides as well. I presume that to be soda ash. I've seen tiny bubbles in another soap that I noticed when I cut the loaf. Is that something else? I saw a picture of...

    % of butters in soap

How about % castor oil. I've read not to go much higher than 3% or the soap will be too soft. Any thoughts?

    Soap and Fragrances

When you say "ppo" is that referring to the amount of oil weight in the recipe or yield of soap made as the final soap? I've read to use between .7 - 1 oz., but get confused as to using the lye calculator which amount I multiply the .7 - 1 oz. I've been doing the .7oz., but find some of the...

    % of butters in soap

I had been using 3%, but wanted to up it a bit. I think I'll try 5% with my next batches.
