Overwhelmed! Please help me not fail.

Begin at the beginning. You are already 6 months behind on making anything to sell this summer and years behind in testing for a lotion that would last. I have read of people testing for 18 months and more. You also need to develop your skills. This is not something you can ignore. I'm...

    Another Ricing Question

This happened to me with a batch of lilac. I've just found DOS on it after 5 months, I'm thinking it's from the excess oil. It would be interesting to know if that happens to you.

Overwhelmed! Please help me not fail.

Stephaniezara, OMG... slow down sweetie. You are not going to be selling anytime soon unless you want to make some melt and pour or buy a rebatch, but even that takes time to perfect. CP/HP takes time to learn, and I don't think anyone is going to give you their tried and true...

Crafter's Choice Essential Oils, High quality or not?

I've had good and bad essentials from WSP. I've also used Aura Cacia, but I'm not exactly sure Aura Cacia is pure since we had some DOS in soap that was made with it. I no longer use either, however.

    Another first for me--D.O.S!

When the bar is dry, does your fingernail sink into it with little to no pressure? That's how I identify DOS. I've got some bars that have an orange spot, but not DOS. They don't change and they aren't soft. But, I have had some look like that if an oil pools on the top.

    Need help conquering labels

Have you tried cleaning your printer feed rolls? They could be slipping. It might help to stack a few sheets of something else underneath your labels in the feeder tray too. That seems to keep things a little tighter for me.

    Grrrr-acne!

The dreaded acne. At 43, you'd think I'd be over that, but no. I look like a teen except for my eye wrinkles. lol. A couple months ago, I took a intensive probiotic pill daily. My acne cleared in 2 weeks and my skin was beautiful. Well, fast forward, I ran out and now I am covered again. I...

    Need help conquering labels

Couple things I check with my labels. Is the printer software/driver set to fit the border to the paper or any other type of fitting/scaling? Or does your printer do borderless and is that on? Is your document 8.5x11? Mine is set to no scaling, no borderless printing and I ignore all warning...

Can I transfer all my business stuff to new computer?

Yes to it all but you'll have to download/install new versions of the programs in some cases, especially if you updated your operating system. Make sure you do your back ups on Soapmaker 3 but, we just used our log in and downloaded the program again to install it on the new one. Went from...

Percentage, PPO, and other math musings...

Unless you are Brambleberry and calculate by final soap weight. It gets so confusing sometimes!

    Question about taxes and COGS

Hey there! I've highlighted the parts of where my business might differ from other soap makers. I'm a partnership and a business tax payer (1065), not an individual tax payer (schedule C) and I have a non qualifying business. Manufacturers and retail sales are non qualifying. But, according...

    Question about taxes and COGS

After more reading, the difference might be the Small Business entity. We have an ein as a partnership. It might be different if you are self employed with no ein and work everything through your personal accts. Though this publication states that all taxpayers doing business under the...

    Question about taxes and COGS

That's what I initially thought too, but with the restrictions on how we, as soapmakers, need to account for our supplies in the accrual method, you can't deduct the supplies until they are removed from your final inventory. The best I can understand it is, the IRS is taxing it as Potential...

    Question about taxes and COGS

You are making sense. We, as soapmakers are not exempt from reporting an inventory. We are not allowed, due to the nature of our business, to simply do our accounting by the Cash method according to the IRS. Our business is soapmaking/cosmetic making and is not exempt from accrual accounting...

Business start up questions - in PA

I see I am a little late to the party here, however, here is my 2 cents. My company is a General Partnership. An EIN is required for General Partnership Federal and State Taxes. (http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1065.pdf page 16 item D) You will be completing a 1065 which will attach to your...

Please send some good vibes my way

I feel your pain. Pet Health Insurance is a godsend. I have it for my boy. It has paid for itself for years to come. I have a high money plan, but it's $280 a year, a $250 Deductible then I pay 20%, $10,000 per incident with $150,000 lifetime payout. There are other plans that don't cost...

Hairline cracking issue in curing soaps

I've had soaps crack after being in the fridge because the outside cools and the inside is still heating up. I've had cracking from low humidity too, when the outside dries faster. It could be many factors.

Ia there such a thing as a sugar bar?

I made hot process soap with a cup of sugar mixed in, if I remember, just before molding. They are nice bars, but a little sticky. Not like candy sticky... just slightly tacky, really. Great thing is, they are over a year old, no DOS and the scent is still strong. I'm not sure of when I...

Will I get in trouble for this?

Patent or Trademark? Not trying to be a pita... truly interested in the outcome of this. I too sent an email to HCSG about the new L patent that has been out for review since Oct 2013 on a two layer foaming & fizzing bath bombs, but have heard nothing back yet. This whole thing interested me...
