Is shaving cream a form of cream soap?

That's fair. I don't believe the Body Shop makes a "shaving soap" per se, but I know they make a maca root shaving cream that is fairly well regarded. If that is indeed a cream soap, it's exactly what I am looking for. Thanks!

Is shaving cream a form of cream soap?

No, I know what it is. But a soft soap that uses KOH is not the same as a shaving cream; it's still solid. The consistency is not the same no matter how much water you add. Believe me; I've tried. I've run the water proportions all the way up to an equal amount of water and lipid and still am...

Is shaving cream a form of cream soap?

No, I already make a solid shaving soap, thank you. That's not what I am looking for.

Is shaving cream a form of cream soap?

But will it have the same consistency as a shaving cream? I've never seen a cream soap in person and I don't really want to invest the time in making one if it's not what I'm looking for.

Is shaving cream a form of cream soap?

So that I don't end up tumbling down the wrong rabbit hole in my research, I thought I'd ask what is probably an extremely stupid question: is traditional shaving cream, the kind lathered and applied with a badger brush, a form of cream soap, or is it something else entirely? Thanks!

    Shaving Soap, Revisited

Actually, it has no olive oil in it at all. Observe: http://shavenook.com/thread-martin-de-c ... aving-soap Very simple, but no olive oil. Lindy is correct that very few (VERY few) decent shaving soaps used olive oil, and even then, it's in exceptionally small amounts to avoid the damage it...

    Shaving Soap, Revisited

I'm actually a wet shaver myself (and a member of Badger & Blade as well as reddit's /r/wicked_edge), so I know exactly what I'm looking for. :) That's a great point about the experts, though. But since I'm a student and thus on a limited budget, I'm trying to do this in as few iterations as...

    Shaving Soap, Revisited

You'd think so, but I can attest that for shaving soap, it's not enough. It needs to be denser and thicker than that.

    Shaving Soap, Revisited

44% is too low? It was my understanding from you that it should be over 40%. What would you recommend?

    Shaving Soap, Revisited

Alrighty folks, I've taken the considerable wisdom of this forum into account and have radically redesigned my shaving soap. I'm a little protective of this particular formula, so I'll just provide the SoapCalc numbers in place of the actual ingredients: Hardness: 57 Cleansing: 5 Conditioning...

Advice for the Improvement of Shaving Soap

The reason I'm a little concerned about using tallow is that I've heard it can be comedogenic for certain skin types, whereas I have not heard the same about palm. I'm going to avoid lanolin for this one because of the sensitivities some people have to it. Again, the soap is meant for people...

Advice for the Improvement of Shaving Soap

Thanks. I actually know how to make a proper lather, as I've been wet shaving for nearly a year now. :) I'm trying to duplicate the excellent performance of soaps like Cella and Arko, but don't really want to work with tallow. As someone who has posted frequently on the creation of fine shaving...

Advice for the Improvement of Shaving Soap

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I've upped my stearic acid and coconut oil contents and am going to try another batch tonight. I pulled out the Argan oil entirely due to the expense; also, I feel that the soap is probably pretty kind to the skin already with jojoba, mango butter, and watermelon...

Advice for the Improvement of Shaving Soap

I don't use bentonite clay (or any clays) because it can cause reactions in sensitive skin types. Silk is hypoallergenic, and achieves much the same effect. Wheat germ oil is HIGHLY comedogenic, so I avoid it out of concern that it will irritate those with acne-prone skin and cause breakouts (as...

Advice for the Improvement of Shaving Soap

Hey everyone, I'm trying very hard to perfect a shaving soap for sensitive skin. Something that goes beyond the general "This soap has no fragrance" thing. Here are the numbers for my latest batch: Palm Oil: 40% Castor Oil: 25% Stearic Acid: 17% Coconut Oil: 8% I superfat at 10% with the...
