    How does this look???

Hi Barefoot Farm girl, good morning 🌞 🌞. I don't think soap will help take the dryness away, if your daughter is always washing her hands at work. But maybe making a body butter could help? Or if you want to make a soap without coconut oil, how about Castile soap? Make an olive oil soap. I hope...

And I forgot to say, don't worry about the soap calc numbers.

    How does this look???

Hi barefoot farm girl, I am hink you should adjust your percentages. I disagree with one person who said lower your coconut oil. I think you should raise it to at least 25 to 30 percent. Lower your lard percentage to maybe 20 percent. Almond oil is good. Raise your she's butter to 10 percent...

    Sugar vs Lye?

I thought Bill wanted to add sugar to his soap. So I said sugar amount should be small and added to the water, not rje lye/water. Also, sodium hydroxide amount doesn't change when you add sugar because we know NaOH amount is based on oil amount etc. I also said it's good to know polar and non-...

    Sugar vs Lye?

Bill sorry for not explaining more. Think about why you need sodium hydroxide. What does it do? Remember the amount you use is determined by how much oil you're using, not by how much sugar. Sugar has nothing to do with it. What is your goal for wanting to add sugar anyway? More lather because...

    Sugar vs Lye?

Hi Bill, you should not change the amount of sodium hydroxide. Add a little sugar, like a teaspoon in water first and it will dissolve immediately, before adding sodium hydroxide. Please research polar and non polar molecules. Also a better additive is honey. It adds such a warm bubbly lather...

pH challenge by Dr. Kevin Dunn

Can I ask a question? What are your reasons for wanting to lower the pH of a cold process soap? A soap is going to fall somewhere between 9 and 11. It's supposed to be slightly alkaline, that's what makes it handmade cold process soap. It's good to have an understanding of the pH scale, and...

    Trace & Temperatures

Hi, good morning, I've been making soap for 13 years. Cold process, shave soaps, and I'm studying liquid soap now. I don't sell my soap, but I give it away to family. Though I'm thinking about selling it. I love soap, ever since I was a kid, being fascinated with it. I know you live soap too. I...

    First Ever Soaps!!!!

To Barefoot Farm girl, I know you are just starting and it's very exciting. The thing about Walmart shortening is, how do you know how much of each ingredient is in there? Even if you guess how much Tallow and so on, why take a chance? Soapmaking has much flexibility but I don't think guessing...

    Trace & Temperatures

Hi, that's a really good recipe! I like your oil propositions. Soapmaking temperatures are flexible, there is a large range, let's say from 80-125 degrees. The important thing to think about is: why do we need a certain amount of heat in cold proces? And what would happen if the soap batch was...

pH challenge by Dr. Kevin Dunn

Testing the Ph Testing pH in cold process soap is unnecessary, including the silly tongue test. Any scientist knows it's Testing the pH of cold process soap is completely unnecessary. Trying to manipulate it's pH will change what it is. You never have to test it in any way.
