    Sugar Scrub and Preservatives

I am convinced it’s the shea butter. I saw those spots appear 2 days after I prepared my last batch. I will reduce the shea on my formula as suggested. Any suggestions on how to deal with it on the products that are ready to sell? Should I scoop it out? Maybe use my candle blower to melt it...

    Sugar Scrub and Preservatives

Oh wow! I have discarded so many jars of sugar scrub already. It’s been driving me crazy seeing those spots. Do you know if there’s anyway to confirm if that’s what it is?

Hi Justjacqui, thanks for helping us out. The one on the picture was made with: Shea Butter Coconut Oil Jojoba Oil Argan Oil Sweet Almond Oil Olivem 1000 Cetyl Alcohol Vitamine E Squalene Germall Plus Essential Oils It doesn’t smell bad but looks horrible lol. It still smells like the...

    Sugar Scrub and Preservatives

Hi everyone, I think I need some help with preservatives. Our sugar scrubs don’t last much more than a couple of months. I have tried OPTIPHEN and Germall Plus. With Germall it lasts a bit longer but I believe 2 months is too fast. We also make lotions with OPTIPHEN and we have no issues but...

    Emulsifying Sugar Scrub Guidance

Should i consider the amount of preservative as 0.5% of the fat base only or 0.5% of “fat base + sugar”?

    Emulsifying Sugar Scrub Guidance

It’s been over a decade but I hope you see this message. How did it turn out after a few days? Was the Olivem enough? Did you have to make changes to the recipe after that 1st batch?

Sugar to fat ratio for sugar scrub

DeeAnna you are a hero!!! I’ll try that. I started making is emulsified because after a few days the sugar would set and there would be a “puddle” of oils on the top of the mixture inside the jar and I don’t like it. But I just realized that the recipe I have is for 0.6 parts of sugar for 1...

Sugar to fat ratio for sugar scrub

What is the most sugar you would add per pound of fats to an emulsified sugar scrub recipe?

How does Water:Lye ratio affect tracing?

🤦‍♂️ Sometimes nothing makes sense. I’ll just have to try. Thank for the input.

How does Water:Lye ratio affect tracing?

HAAAA I love when the answer is YES and NO!! LOL Thank you so much. I guess the only way to find out if this is the issue is going back to the old ratio to test. About the coconut oil on the soap, no it doesn’t make our skin feel dry. I posted this recipe before and someone said that the...

How does Water:Lye ratio affect tracing?

We were using 1.3000:1 Water:Lye ration. Since we changed to 1.7000:1 it’s been tracing much faster. Could that be it? BEFORE: NOW:

Do EOs behave differently when combined with other EOs

Who doesn’t love a good soap on a stick? 😒 Been getting those often lately and have no idea why. I know this usually happens with some essential oils. There’s an amazing post with a list of essential oils that speed up tracing. Learned my lesson the hard way and now I avoid those for soaps...

    Mosaic soap after a disaster

Tks! Do you know if it’s ok to let it dry for a few weeks chopped up or is it going to be an issue if it gets too hard?

Is it wrong to calculate Lye like this?

I feel like such a pro now that I know that what I’ve done had a name. Masterbathcing sounds like a pro move. Thank you so much, I’ll research more about it. But why’s is it that you don’t do?

    Mosaic soap after a disaster

I just made some soap on a stick. How long do I have to wait to chop the soap into small pieces and make some mosaic soap? Also, what is the longest I can wait to that? I imagine that if I take too long it will get too hard and it might make it difficult to cut, right? Or does it soften up...

Is it wrong to calculate Lye like this?

Thank you! Sometimes we make 4/5 different types of soap and it’s quite a pain in the neck to measure everything separate for each recipe. I suspect the same, but that means the there was more lye per oz of solution than expected because the solution got a little more concentrated than...

Is it wrong to calculate Lye like this?

I was going to make 3 different kind of soap, all CP just different scents and colors so I calculated the total amount of fats, total of water and total of lye. I melted all the fats for the 3 soaps together. Combined the total lye with the total water which was: Water: 21.74oz Lye:12.79oz...

    My soap is dry/crumbly

Found this post today when looking for info about Australian Sandalwood EO. I tried it yesterday twice, the first time we were able to put it in the mold but the second time we got soap on a stick. Wondering if we used the same “Australian Sandalwood“ 😒

Possible issues from under-mixing the batter?

Thank you all so much for sharing your knowledge. I actually have never seen the batter separating and prefer to keep it like that. We do mix it enough so that it doesn’t separate apparently, so I definitely feel more comfortable now to make some designs. Tks again 🙏
