What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

@Misschief @AliOop I'm making more lotion concentrate tonight, but I can't turn any into lotion until I buy more preservative. Is there another preservative that works as well as Optiphen Plus for this recipe that doesn't smell so bad? I have a specific fragrance in mind, but I'd like to have...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Thanks. I didn't even use stearic and still got a beautiful opaque off-white color that is similar to my ZNSB bar soaps. I don't think with the low amounts of coconut and castor in this recipe will work well in a foamer (but I'm experimenting to be sure) so I'm really trying to hone in on the...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Surely, you know I couldn't waiting that long. I started weighing oils and lye around 4pm and had fully diluted liquid soap at 9pm. It's still warm so it hasn't thickened up yet, but I just had to try a little off my spatula... It lathers and didn't hurt! Update: 1:1 dilution is too thick (not...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I'm a tidy soaper. I don't have enough room (or time) to be messy. I have everything laid out, organized, and Ready, Set, SOAP! I keep a plastic bin (like the ones from hospitals) near me to put soapy stuff in as I go so I can just take the bin to the sink after the soap is made and covered...

I love your green/blue color. Need sunglasses for that shade of yellow 😎

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made liquid soap and now I remember why I gave up on liquid soap over a year ago. It hurts. My hands are on fire and they HURT hurt. I think I might've figured out why, though. I think the increased amount of castor in my liquid soap is causing me to have an allergic reaction. I'm allergic to...

    Lard LS

The soap diluted in under 30 minutes of simmering covered in a hot water bath on the stove. I'm still waiting for the bubbly foam to dissipate. When reading the thread about @IrishLass's glycerin method using 3bees recipe, it says she used 1 part water to 1 part KOH and then the full 3 parts...

    Lard LS

I stickblended just to see if the paste would thicken or harden into a paste that is the consistency I am familiar with. Based on the paler color, I think all I accomplished was whipping the soap paste. I went ahead and began diluting. I added distilled water at the same amount as the soap paste...

    Lard LS

Thank you. That makes complete sense. I went ahead and made an olive heavy recipe that I've used enough times to be comfortable with to test out this new to me method. 70 olive 20 castor 10 coconut 0 superfat 20% lye concentration I used aloe vera liquid for the water amount (equal to the...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made a small batch of liquid soap paste using a very different method than I've used before. It was straightforward and stress-free. I may never use the stovetop or crockpot method again. Thank you for all your help @IrishLass and @AliOop!

What soapy thing have you done today?

After seeing your recipe, I can't really blame them. Tallow and avacado oil are probably good sustaining food for survival! 😂

What soapy thing have you done today?

My very first soap was beer and and a very high percentage of deer tallow. Instant pudding. Seriously, I accidentally made floating soap! 🤣

    Lard LS

I don't use a preservative in LS, but it probably makes sense to if it's diluted enough for a foamer, I suppose. Pretty sure we'll go through it fast enough not to need one either. Now, if I were diluting soap for foamer bottles intended to give as gifts, I'd be asking more questions about if I...

    Lard LS

Mine will be a bit different from both of yours. 70 lard 20 castor 10 coconut I definitely like the idea of 0 SF for the paste to lower the possibility of oils going rancid in the paste. Thank you both for replying so quickly! I'm going to make paste tonight. I just ordered some PS80 and the...

    Lard LS

That is very helpful. I thought the stearic in lard gave that pearly look. I didn't realize it's the added pure stearic acid. Thank you for clarifying this for me. @AliOop, can I ask how much SF and FO/EO you are using in your diluted lard LS? I'd like to try it. My boys will love foaming soap...

Please tell me about salt bars

I planned on making Elly's recipe but found Zany's and tried it first because real seawater isn't local for me. Then I saw the DOS video and decided to run the numbers and realized they were very similar so I didn't try it. Can't wait to see your cut!

    Lard LS

Stearic? I'm not looking at the creamy cocoa shea recipe, but the 3bees one. Dilution is with SL to help speed it up in a canning jar in a hot water bath. Or are you referring to the stearic already present in the lard? I keep reading that the pearly stuff eventually separates from the diluted...

Please tell me about salt bars

If you watch Elly, you'll notice that particular batch got DOS. Her recipe, though, is very similar to Zany's recipe for ZNSB, which I've been making for a couple years now and am eternally grateful for. So far, it's the only soap that doesn't cause my sensitive skin to dry out, break out, or...

    Lard LS

Paging @IrishLass @Susie @DeeAnna @AliOop and anyone else who may have experience here. I've been reading the everlong LS thread posted by Irishlass ~10 yrs ago (loved reading Deanna's reactions and step by step with temps).... Anyway, I'm considering using the same method with a different...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I heat my oils and let them start cooling down BEFORE mixing my lye solution. I use an icebath and slowly add the lye to the water and frozen aloe to prevent the sugars from scorching. Otherwise, the natural color of my soap is more yellowish than it's usual creamy off-white.
