Goat milk soap smells like lye

It's not the breed of goat that makes the difference, but any one of the following reasons: what they are eating, the time of year, if a male is close to them or not, and if the goats are milked directly into a cooler or not. I've kept fairly large herds of dairy goats all my adult life and...

How Much Of A Comission Should I Give My Aunt?

I know a couple of people that sell soaps for those that make it and the going rate seems to be a 25% commision by all accounts, but really it's something that you should discuss with your aunt so you come to a mutally agreeable deal

A couple question for Aussie soapers

I just checked the link and it takes you straight to it. To crush the granules into powder try a mortar and pestel or use a steel headed hammer on some in a thick plastic bag lying on concrete with a thin tea towel folded over it That suggestion is from my grandson who is sitting here with...

80 year young soap & candle maker

It sounds as though you have the odds stacked against you before you begin Irene, little wonder that you can't make your soaps anywhere near as cheaply as I can, and of course the fancier your recipe is the more expensive it becomes to produce also. It helps even less when you need to factor...

    Cottonseed or rice bran oil???

All my goat milk soap is made with fresh milk directly from my little dairy Aussie Girl so I can tell you that the shelf life is extremely good because the heating process that is created when the caustic soda is added will distroy any bacteria that may be in non treated milks.

    another milk question :)

I don't know if this will help you in the future when you're making a milk soap but one way to ensure that your milk doesn't get that nasty looking curdled look and burnt smell as it heats up when you add the caustic soda is if you use half of your water as iced water that looks like slushy ice...

    Eczema soap?

I sell loads of plain goat milk soap for people that suffer with eczema and acne, but sometimes I also add just a touch of T tree EO, but not very much at all because if it's too strong it can make some people's skin flare up. I put T tree EO in at a rate of 5mil per Kg (2.2lbs) goat milk...

A couple question for Aussie soapers

Try a pet store that sells fish tank supplies as they need it for their filters, and another source is one of the many home beer and wine making supply stores as they also use it to filter wines, and they are most probably the cheaper source to buy it from.

Not knowing what sort of recipes you use to make your soaps it's very hard to say why you have such a hard time making them cheaply as I do but mine are very basic recipes while I'm buying everything I use in large quantities, so it works out around 30 to 35 cents per 100gram bar for mine for...

Laundry Soap bar--too soft to make powder -help

I was very lucky some years ago to find a deli that was closing down and selling all sorts of machines off second hand, so I bought the big digital scales there I use all the time now and while I was at it I also bought one of the two meat slicing machines they had that they used to slice the...

Laundry Soap bar--too soft to make powder -help

Of course Bi-carb is a very good natural de-odourant but I've never used it for dishwashing purposes, just whenever I want to make my fridge smell fresh or in a stick of de-odourant for human use etc.

Thank you for your very kind words Sibi I was born in November 1931 so your dear grandmother would have been able to teach me a few things no doubt, but while life was simpler in many ways it was very hard work too and I certainly don't miss that part of things, although sometimes I think...

Laundry Soap bar--too soft to make powder -help

When I want to create a harder bar of laundry soap I add in a little beewax to my recipe. I also do the same when I want to make my work soap bars with pumice just so they last longer My neighbour keeps honey bees for a living so I get all my beeswax from him after he cleans and strains it...

The main problem with making your own lye is in keeping it stable and consistant quality and that's not very easy to do no matter how many times you do it, so I find it lovely that I can buy it as the same quality these days without having to worry about it all the time. It also makes life so...

Great book for newbie CP soapmakers

I bought it because I'd been told about it by someone else but they didn't say where they bought it from Bubbles I buy other Ebooks from Amazon and I found it there so I just bought it for my friend after being told about it, and to be honest because it wasn't expensive. I only read through...

A couple question for Aussie soapers

I buy my Pearl caustic soda from a local farmer's supply store here in Queensland, but Pearl is a brand that is fairly well known all over Australia if you go asking for it buy name. I suggest that you try farmer's supply stores or cleaning product outlets, but they only sell in in 20 Kg bags...

Not finding what I need locally

I never run out of goat milk because I milk 30 of my own girls twice every day, but I use most of the milk for cheese and yogurt making to sell on farmer's markets twice each month along with my soaps and beeswax candles
