Wasn't there a "favorite fragrence" thread?

Thanks all, and Jersey Girl, that first one I'm about 99% sure is the one I remember seeing. Thanks!!!

How can what is normally an oil (or liquid) be a powder?!?!

Yea, I found one I was talking about. It sounds like this is NOT the case with Saw Palmetto extract, as akseattle and Alioop pointed out, what people call saw palmetto "extract" can vary. But here is some gamma linolenic acid for sale on alibaba...

Wasn't there a "favorite fragrence" thread?

I could have sworn I saw one one time. I wanted to get everyone's favorite fragrences so I can try some, but didn't want to start a thread that had already been done before. Yet I'm having trouble finding it. Anyone know if there is one, and might be able to point me to it? Thanks!

How can what is normally an oil (or liquid) be a powder?!?!

Thanks everyone. Seems to me that the answer is simply that "saw palmetto extract" is a generic term that can be in either a solid or liquid form. Let's shift gears for a sec. Forget about saw palmetto. Let's start with an oil. Any real oil. Say olive oil. Say its 100% pure. I don't...

How can what is normally an oil (or liquid) be a powder?!?!

Curious. I was thinking of trying some saw palmetto extract in some soap. Every "normal" place you see it (Amazon, for example), its always a liquid form. Which makes sense, as its an oil. But if you go to Alibaba.com and search for it, a bunch of powders come up! How can that even work...

Need a spoon/other stirring device that can survive both alkaline (lye) AND acidic conditions - suggestions?

^^^^^ Crap, it is hydrochloric acid (muriatic, same thing). So SS won't work for that? What else should I get that can handle both hydrochloric acid and lye? Some kind of plastic stirrer? Thanks all!!!

Need a spoon/other stirring device that can survive both alkaline (lye) AND acidic conditions - suggestions?

I need something that can stir both heavily alkaline (lye) and heavily acidic conditions, I would like one spoon/stirring device that can handle both. Any suggestions? Primarily on the type of material, I have no clue what kind of material could stand up to both. Thanks!!!

Thank you AliOop, lsg and akseattle! Heard loud and clear AliOop, will try again tweaking things up per your suggestion and post my results! Thanks!!!

Can you guys help with current cook (still on the stove!) - what is going on?

Well, I pulled the plug, probably close to 2 hours of cooking, I just poured it into some molds after some more mixing. If you look carefully at the pic below, you can see liquid coming out of the more dense "soap", I dunno whether that is water or what, but it can't be good. :(

Can you guys help with current cook (still on the stove!) - what is going on?

Just went downstairs and stirred a bunch more with the stick (after having used the blender many minutes ago), and a picture is below - it does not seem to be reducing to the "wattery" mix again, staying more solid. But it still is very live with the ZAP test. Its weird, I watch youtube videos...

Can you guys help with current cook (still on the stove!) - what is going on?

So this is borage seed oil. I just had some laying around and wanted to get rid of it. What better way than to make a very bad soap!! Anyways, I definitely used more water than I was supposed to. Like the soapcalc recipe called for 77 grams, I used close to 100 grams. No problem, I can let...

Hot process soap making - soap getting too thick/hard

Got it AliOop! Yep, that is why I was wanting not to add it until basically 100% of the lye had reacted with the (other) oils and the chemical reaction was complete. The problem is, by that time though, in my experience the soap is a thick mess and does not pour into the mold at all, you have...

Hot process soap making - soap getting too thick/hard

Thank you all! I will make a batch soon trying the much reduced stick blender approach! So let me ask this - I want to make a soap that has a super fat as a particular fat, not the general fats going into my soap, but a particular fat that I want to add at the end to make sure its not eaten up...

Development of oconut oil meltable soap base.

^^^^^ WOW, sorry about that, that was intended for a whole other thread! Not sure how that happened, please ignore that response. My bad!

Hot process soap making - soap getting too thick/hard

Yes, EXACTLY right artemis! So I do hot process. I let it cook and cook (and keep stick blending, subject to the following) until there is no zap. By that no-zap time it is a super think/almost solid mess - the stick blending doesn't even work anymore. So I have to basically spoon out all of...

Hot process soap making - soap getting too thick/hard

^^^^ thank you DeeAnna, will give it a try! I used the stick blender so much because one time I tried to make soap without using the stick blender at all, just hand stirring, and it came out AWFUL, I concluded that because I didn't use a stick blender the lye water and oil did not mix properly...

Hot process soap making - soap getting too thick/hard

I go loooong periods of time between making soap, and it seems like I forget stuff every time. But I just made some, mostly coconut oil and palm kernel oil, with some avocado oil as well. Anyways, I usually stick blend a ton, and keep going until I don't get any "zaps" when doing the tongue...

So I guess I totally blew it on this soap with coconut milk added?

Thank you AliOop, next time around I'll post the who recipe/process! Thanks all!!!

So I guess I totally blew it on this soap with coconut milk added?

Oh I see artemis, thanks! Then I guess if I use real milk (rather than powdered) I guess I really need to do cold process soap rather than hot process? Thanks!

So I guess I totally blew it on this soap with coconut milk added?

I do leap before I look quite often not_ally. :) Thanks! The problem is I wasn't quite following it. I follow just substitute the water our for the milk in. Then add the lye to that. Which is what I did. But where I get lost is the "(to be on the safe side, freeze the milk into ice cubes...
