    Flaked lye vs. pellet lye?

Quite honestly, I am completely sold on flake lye. I bought some lye from another company as I needed something else from them, and yes the lye can fly about and I hate that. I Hot press and I found that it has been taking longer for my soap cooks rather then the flakes. So I am going back to my...

Hot Press using: high oleic sunflower, and avocado oil

I'm just thinking I'll just have to adjust the whole recipe and had harder oils....I kind of have given up on the specific combination I was aiming for. Let me think about it. I am so unsure!

HI everyone I posted some time back about avocado oil and it hasn't gotten any better at all. Same issue with the oils just not blending. I am haivng a floating island and I never have that with any of our other bars. A floating oil and tons of oil. I know people said use coconut oil and...

Those using avocado oil in soaps

hhhmm it's a good thought but we place only a piece of paper towel or saran wrap over it, and then we press tare and go from there. So I kind of highly doubt it but it does sound and feel very heavy with lye. Because it cooked FOREVER. It was so greasy and oily. I even tried to pour the second...

Those using avocado oil in soaps

Okay I am going to have to do major testing then because I made a HUGE oily mess today and the lye still zapped me FOREVER. I didn't think it'd be this hard...darn it! well it's fun regardless but obviously don't want to waste a bunch of money so smaller batches then right? that's possible with...

Those using avocado oil in soaps

TessV thanks for the encouragement! Because when I mixed everything the lye still zapped, and it was supper mushy and runny. I would liek to make a shampoo bar with a higher content of olive oil. So if I riased the amount of olive then I could make it work with a little less of the other...

Those using avocado oil in soaps

Hi I need some assistance :) I realize now that avocado oil has a very high percentage of unsaponifiables...hope I spelled that right! So what is too much. If using olive oil, sunflower oil, and avocado oil and jojoba oil as a base with superfatting. How can I make a proper soap with...

How much honey to add to soap?

Really? I thought clay since it's kind of herbal would be affected and adding herbs and clays at the end would keep them richer and not cook out the properties and benefits from them. Sorry Maria, I meant sugar. Do I add the sugar with the water and then add the lye? It's 1 tsp per pound or 1...
